"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" Auto Wreckers, Gord Lewis in shoot out In the first game of their Atom house league playoffs, the Whitby Auto W ers defeated Gord Lewis 10-3 in a wide open fast skating shoot-out. Blayne Kinnunen led the Wreckers with five goals and one assist and also scored the first three goals of the game, earning himself a natural hat trick. Gord Lewis pressed early, but Lewis' goalie Devon Symes had to face many breakaways. Team scoring sum- maries for the Wreckers were as follows: Wade Ritchie one goal and five assists; one goal and one assist for John Sanders, Keith Hancock, Ken Ellis and Joel Van Camp; one assist each for Dave Crouter, Kam Cooper and goalie Mike MacLennan. Scoring for Gord Lewis were Daniel Lee, Jeremy Pare and Scott Willman with assists going to Joel Phoenix, Chris Thompson and Jeremy Pare. Although this was a high scoring game, Gord Lewis players outshot the Wreckers and had the territorial advantage throughout the game. This perseverance and determina-, tion should help them in their future playoff games. "On Sunday evening, in the second round of the Atom house league playoffs, the Whitby Auto Wreckers defeated the Port Perry Lions 5-4 in an exciting fast paced game. Lions goalie Jonathan Froats played a solid game and kept the Lions within striking distance. Lions opened the scoring at 4:33 as Ryan Hawkins scored from Josh Martyn. The Wreckers replied at 1:10 as John Sanders scored, ~ assisted by Ken Ellis. The second period was also tied at two a piece as Lions' Tim Wray scored, assisted by Bob Cowie and Scott Cunningham. One minute later, Wreckers' Wade Ritchie scored assisted by Keith Hancock. Wreckers scored three quick goals. The first two by Blayne Kin- nunen, assisted by Keith Hancock and then Keith scored, unassisted. The Lions roared back with less than two minutes remaining as Josh Martyn scored, unassisted, and then Bob Cowie scored from Josh Mar- tyn, with four seconds remaining. Unfortunately time had run out for the Lions and the fans were left breathless after such an exciting last period with all out effort by both teams. Whitby's goalie Mike MacLennan again gave a solid performance in the Wreckers' net. Both teams con- tinue their playoffs next Saturday. Ivory Forest Juniors The Ivory Forest Juniors con- tinued to demonstrate their winning ways as they skated to a 5-2 win over the Scarborough Junior AAs last Sunday. Port Perry strutted their stuff as: they took control of the game and dominated the game throughout the entire game. The defensive trio of Jennifer Morden, Leea Kinnunen and Michelle Ftizpatrick put an ef- fective damper on Scarbo- rough's offensive attack. The of- fensive lines controlled the play to their advantage as they com- bined to score five goals. Karen Kett and Jennifer Smith scored double whammies and Kim Poppleton fired in a single. Kim also earned two assists with in- dividual assists going to Amy Parliament and Dawn Dou- cette. The final score bodes well for the Port Perry team as this will be one of the teams the Ivory Juniors will be facing off against in the Ontario Provin- cials which will take place in Kitchener during the March break.
