Each student who bought a "Proud to be Canadian" T-shirt was permitted to the dance. Other activities geared towards raising money for the project were a car wash and a coin collection. The guest speaker will be Kathleen Petrie, a well known and knowledgeable nursery owner of Analda Landscap- ing and Nurseries, Blackstock. Kathleen will be addressing the sub- ject 'What's hot and what's not in plants." And can you believed it? This will be the first flower show this season, with seven classes in the narcissus section, as well as other bulbs, indoor plants and the decorative class. Looking at my garden, there won't be a thing in bloom for two or three weeks. Eileen Slute, our membership chairperson urges all members to bring a friend to the meeting, so that we can get our membership over the 100 mark. Coming up on Tuesday, May 12 is the Brooklin Horticulture spring plant auction, to be held in Grass Park, Brooklin. Rain date: May 14. The regular meeting of the Ladies' Bible Class met at the home of Florence Ashton, on Wednesday evening, April 8. The meeting open- ed with the singing of '"The Old Rugged Cross." The scripture from St. John 20: 1-18 was read by Chrissie McKinney, following with prayer. The meditation 'Women and Easter' was given by the presi- dent. The hymn "He Lives' was sung. Grace Hopkins and Joan Knight read two Easter poems from the Ideals magazine. Bernice Gard- ner was in charge of the program and shared with us an Easter message by Rev. James Kennedy, Minister from Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauder- dale, Florida. Bernice closed our meeting with prayer. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The May meeting will be held at the home of Aldine Wick. It's euchre night again on Thurs- day at 8 p.m. at the Ashburn Com- munity Centre. Everyone is welcome. Bert and Ruth Wood have return- ed home following an enjoyable winter spent in Florida. Gwen Cassady of Toronto spent Easter weekend with Muriel Fisher. Doug and Florence Ashton spent Easter Sunday with Mrs. Ruth Pur- dy of Orangeville. The Sacrament of Holy Commu- nion was celebrated at Burns Church on Easter Sunday. Moyra Dobson, Ken Brown and Lyle Par- rott were received into the member- ship of Burns. After the service, cof- fee was served. Congratulations to Theo and Joan Knight on the arrival of a new grandson born Easter Sunday mor- ning. The happy parents are Jim and Elaine Ewing of Orangeville, this being their first child. OBITUARY Edgar Robert {Ted} Heron passed away at the Oshawa General Hospital on Friday, April 10, 19921in his 84th year. He was predeceased by his fa- ther and mother, Robert Gard- ner and May Alice Heron. Ted, beloved husband of Rose Norene Reynolds. Loving father of Doris and her husband Bill McAndless of Don Mills, Ken and his wife Elaine of Brace- bridge, Faye and her husband Drew Leaper of Etobicoke and Mary and her husband Peter Langer of Germany. Lovingly remembered by his 10 grandchildren and their fam- ilies with seven great- grandchildren. Ted was born at Ashburn and moved to the farm between Ash- burn and Myrtle when he was seven years old. He was mar- ried to Rose in 1932 and they farmed on the home farm for 25 years and then they moved to Ashburn when he worked as a government employee {assessor} until he retired. After he returned for about 10 years he was a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and en- joyed helping people. He was formerly a member of Burns Church, Ashburn, where he was an elder for many years. He was Sunday School superin- tendant for 21 years and was ac- tively involved in the choir and the mens choir and was also treasurer of the church for many years when he became ill and was confined to Whitby hos- pital. He became a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Whitby and was very thankful for their love and kind- ness. He was also thankful for the special kindness of the chaplin at Whitby hospital and the prayers that went up for him from there and many people and churches. He was a member of Beetho- ven Lodge No. 165 for almost 50 years. The funeral was from the W.C. Town Chapel in Whitby, on Monday, April 156 with Rev. J.W. McClure of the Whitby Presbyterian Church presiding. Interment will be in Ashburn Cemetery.
