But this system has been in violation of the Fire Marshal's Act which states that there must be one fire chief for the municipality. Mayor Hall said the issue had to be addressed as there was great concern over the legalities and liabilities under the present system. A Fire Marshal's report, con- ducted on behalf of the munici- pality in 1990, suggested the implementation of one chief. 0]s]s lia] The township had hoped to in- troduce a full-time chiefin 1991, but due to budget constraints were unable to do so. The Fire Marshal's Act speci- fies the need for one chief per municipality, full or part-time. Due to practicalities, the town- ship chose the part-time option. Township officials met with the officers from both fire halls on April 13 to begin the search process for the position. The offi- cers will evaluate the criteria to be used in filling the position. The township will benefit greatly from the implementa- tion of a part-time fire chief, says Mayor Hall. He says it will establish better co-operation between the two halls and pro- duce better firefighters as all will be able benefit from a com- mon training schedule. Also it will be more economical for the township as there will be less duplication in expenses. Earlier this year Mayor Hall came out in favor of a full-time chief but realized it was not eco- nomically possible with the present budget constraints. 1 \ ESTEAD BY BALIARD & CARNEGIE Kitchen Aid _Dishwashers Fi Features include: * 1/2 h.p.
