re "A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 28, 1992 - 11 Plans include McDonald's Restaurant Large development planned on 6.8 acres includes 3 retail stores By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star It appears the interest in a large parcel of land in west Port Perry is growing rapidly as an- other development proposal has been put before council. During a public meeting on Monday, a group including local businessman Robert VanCamp, said they didn't want to go through the same problems again. "The township won't end the recession by creating the Cause- way West," she said. "Council is not intending to create another commercial area." More than 20 residents, most on property adjacent to the property on Alma Street, at- tended the public meeting to ex- press their opposition to the pro- posed development. Most expressed concern for the well- being of a nearby creek and the increased traffic on Highway TA. Council will make a decision on the proposal shortly. For Trimming, Pruning & Professional Removal of Branches & Trees +Stump Removal +Treo Removal & Pruning *Hedge & Shrub T EVIL REE B.Sc. (Agr.) presented a development plan for a commercial development on land owned by Mr. Van- Camp. The land faces Highway TA near Queen Street. According to Basil Living- ston, a representative for the project, the development will cover approximately 6.8 acres and will feature 46,000 square feet of retail space in three sep- erate buildings. It will feature a 27,000-square foot automotive/ retail store, other retail stores totalling 24,000 and a McDo- nald's restaurant covering 2,760 square feet. Will Walker, a lawyer at Walker, Head, Barrister & So- licitors, told council the meeting was an informal chance to present ideas to council. Mr. Walker said many ideas are being considered for the pro- ject including pairing up with another development proposing to build a large grocery store on \ adjoiningland to the west. | Mr. Walker said they had had preliminary discussion with Champion Developments pro- posing the idea of a joint develo- ment. i But Ward 2 Councillor Mari- : lyn Pearce cautioned the devel- l opers that the project would not receive approval quicker or eas- ier if they combined with Cham- pion. | Many of the councillors ex- pressed the same concerns to this project as they had to the Champion proposal. These in- cluded traffic concerns on High- way 7A and the need for another | development in Port Perry. Councillor Pearce pointed to the problem of another area of | the township, namely Highway | 7A, east of Water Street and Ht H Ap.
