More than 200 residents showed up at lanson Park in Greenbank Friday evening for the official § flag raising. Ward 1 councillor § Ken Carruthers helps life-long resident Murray Lee raise the flag. The crowd was enter- #8 tained by a group of local singers who led in a sing-a- =u long. After the short program, MC'ed by Rodd Foster, every- a one gathered around the ball JSS diamonds to watch the Green- bank Gamblers take on the Greenbank Cuties (pictured »g% below). If you missed our very own "Canada 125th cele- bration" you missed a very memorable event. Young and old alike were delighted with the activities. From a patriotic flag dedication and raising to the food and refreshments, to the very entertaining ball game. The weather remained cool but our spirits wer high. Everyone came out a winner! The 2-2 tie was a perfect end- ing. Thanks to all who partici- pated from our sponsors and helpers and to the ball players for supporting us in such an event. Think how wonderful it is to be living in Greenbank where the community spirit is alive and well. Thanks again to Greenbank. I want to add may thanks to Rod Foster who officiated and to Murray Lee. But most of all to Dot Hooker, Lila Clarkson and Barb Ward who said they could do this and they did. Visiting the McKeans on Sun- day were granddaughter Kim and Tom Taylor of Whitby and son Larry and Pat Treleaven of Stroud. On Monday, April 20 some members of Greenbank Church motored to Burlington to attend the Service of Rememberance for Mr. Herbert Lawrence Shep- herd, father of Rev. David Shep- herd. It was held in Port Nelson United Church. The meditation entitled "Lawrie Shephard, a Gentleman of God" was given - by Rev. Don Parsons, the Pas- tor. We extend our sympathy to the Shepherd family. Visiting Muriel Gibson last Wednesday were Joan Reinhart and Marion Morrison of Peter- borough. On Sunday, May 3, is our se- cret pal box social luncheon at the church from 12 p.m to 1.30 p.m. It is time to find out the real identity of the persons you have been writing to all year, or do you think you know who it is? The adults are asked to bring the sandwiches to share with their secret friends. The children are asked to bring cookies or squares to share. The Sunday School will provide DENTI PORT PERRY DENTAL CENTRE 238 Queen St. drinks and a surprise. The Fidelis U.C.W. group will meet on Wednesdav. Mav 6 at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome at Greenbank Church. Our special birthday wishes to Mrs. Velma Foster who's big day is on Thursday, April 30. Please note change of date because of our "30 Year Celebration" to be held on May 27 in Greenbank Hall. Greenbank Public School News By B.J. Byers and Jona- than Reed It's Play Time! On Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Greenbank Public School, the students will be pre- senting the Spring Concert. The primary division will perform "A Salute to Canada." The junior division will present the play called "Readin', 'Ritin' and Rockin"." Members of the community are welcome to watch our per- formance. Anyone unable to at- tend the Wednesday night per- formance is invited to watch our full dress rehearsal Tues- day afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Trees On Friday, April 24, Green- bank students and staff and parents planted trees to make their school grounds beautiful. A special thank-you to the many parent volunteers who supervised the tree planting groups. We were hoping to plant 100 trees but unfortunately they were stolen the night before at the pickup place.
