It has many, many fea- tures to make life more mean- ingful for the residents of Scu- gog, young and old alike! Let us take advantage of this excellent facility which serves the whole township so well. One of the greatest gifts is the passion of reading good books. It is cheap, it consoles, it ex- cites, it distracts, it gives you knowledge of the world and ex- perience of a wider kind. It is a moral illumination! Priceless and precious are the blessings which books scatter around our daily paths. We walk in imagi- nation and understanding. Reading lasts a lifetime and is ever useful in work and play. Trust mothers everwhere had a happy memorable day on Sun- day, and were rewarded with visits from the family. If far away, a phone call. A day of pleasure. Someone has said, "The road is never long when you are on the way to your mothers. Yes! mothers are spe- cial people, and Mother's Day has been celebrated every sec- ond Sunday in May since 1914. Cancer News For the north east section of Ward 4 (Cartwright) under Captain Judy Frew, Highway 57, the Cancer Drive was most successful with $768 collected. This was above last year. Those assisting Judy were Merle Evanoff, Scugog Point, and Diane Wilson of View Lake. Our thanks and warmest congratu- lations to the enthused canvas- ers for a task well done. Nestleton United Church Robert and Carol Mairs, Ste- ven and Katie were the friendly greeters on Sunday, May 10 at 11:15 a.m. for the Mother's Day Service. Not as many worship- pers as usual due to many com- mitments. Student minister Ron Britton from St. Paul's United Church in Bowmanville presented a fine message using as his topic "Here's to Mom." Kathy Tro- mans read the passages of There Be Love" with Karen Yel- lowlees at the piano. Many love- ly old hymns were sung. Offer- ing gathered by Norm Mairs and grandson Steven Mairs. The annual spring smorgas- bord sponsored by the Nestle- ton U.C.W. was once again a fine success, held in the Nestle- ton Community Centre. Our sincere thanks to those who supported our dinner and en- joyed the succulent food. Mother's Day Breakfast The Nestleton Hall Board hosted a Mother's Day break- fast on Sunday, May 10, with an excellent attendance. The menfolk excelled at the cater- ing with their usual fast service and food in abundance was en- joyed thoroughly. Hats off to the great men cooks of Nestle- ton. They are grand folks.
