"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" Children by Reta Mother's Day or Family Day Sunday brought forth many ex- pressions of gratitude for such perfect weather to brighten our days opposed to gloomy occa- sions of riots, coal mine disas- ters, etc. The Island United Church was filled to capacity with regu- lar members as well as families interested in Baptism. All six baptized children were girls, the daughters of Lorie and Cal Cardinal, Cathy and David Tay- lor, Jane and Raymond Reader. Upon exit from the church, it was noted that the parking lot was full and several cars were parked on the roadside, a very unsafe spot for eager children who may dart across in front of oncoming traffic. This brought to mind earlier plans for addi- tional parking space at the rear . that had been donated to re- quire further planning of work and expense but not enough to complete. Therefore, it would seem that when the roof is com- pleted and paid, parking should probably be the next necessity. Please keep it in mind before a tragedy occurs. : As well as Family Day at church it almost seemed like a re-union with former members who do not find it easy to attend regularly. I imagine Ethel Freeman has received a few cheery messages. She is already making plans for her future. I'm sure she'll appre- ciate your messa and your encouragement. Ifyou have lost the address just give me a call. No one seems to be travelling these days. They are all happy to be in gardens, flower beds or on lawnmowers. ] A friend who has much to do with organizing play groups for children under school age was telling me of her golden rule when visiting a new group. It's just this: never leave without saying at least one complimen- tary thing. The organization may be bad. The organization may resent advice and think they know how everything should be done. But however wrong you think they may be, always say one nice thing, even if its only to admire a scarf somebody is wearing or to pay a compliment about a picture on the wall. What you say may be quite unimportant but there's noth- ing worse than going away leav- ing an impression that you didn't find anything to praise. We may say we don't care if people don't notice the kind or clever things we do, but deep down don't we all yearn to be ap- preciated?
