"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, May 20, 1992 - 31 Auxiliary Penny Dr By Luella Graham The May meeting of the Port Perry Community Hospital was held May 11. The President wel- comed all, and was pleased to have a really good attendance of 23 people. Our President Mary Cannon opened the meeting with all re- peating the Auxiliary Prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were given by the Secretary Ha- zel Coates and accepted, all oth- er officers reports were then given. Our wool convener then showed us all the lovely knitted articles sent in and the auxil- lary is very appreciative of the work these ladies do. Wedding Anniversary with an o on Sunday afternoon. M Mr. Brown was then asked to speak and he gave us a run down of the progress of the hos- pital expansion. Under new business a motion was made by Ilean and second- ed by Luella that we have a Fall Fashion Show on October 14, 1992. All other discussions were tabled until our next meeting. The nominating committee then took over at this time and the slate of officers for the ensu- ing year will be the same as last year with the addition of Danna Sweetman. Our next meeting will be June 15 and there will be a pot luck luncheon at 12 o'clock in NE Les and Grace Beacock of Port Perry celebrated their 50th pen house at Prince Albert Hall any well-wishers from as far away as Lindsay and Toronto visited with the happy couple. The Bea- cocks were married 50 years ago today (Wednesday, May 20). Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Beacock! Senior Citizen's news From Page 21 nity and volunteers are needed for each event. Participaction Day on Wednesday, May 27 needs about 30 volunteers while the annual Canoe the Nonquon event and Triathalon event on June 6 requires 50. A community is only as good as the people in it and these events are significant boosters for our area so let's pitch in and volun- teer. For Participaction call Gord Prentice, 985-3304, Roy or Dons Gnerson 985-8345, or Councilor Ken Gadsden 985- 4294. For Canoe the Nonquon and Triathalon phone the Mue- seum at 985-3589, Carol Fagel, 985-0111, or Rou Grierson 985- 8345. Our annual Fall Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Octo- ber 24 at the Latcham Centre. This is an important fundraiser for our club. I expect table con- venors will be named at the next meeting; in the meantime club members are asked to get busy and sell the raffle tickets allotted to them. We were addressed by two guests, Mr. Hugh Ormiston and Mr. George Skerratt who are promoting the formation of a Port Perry shuffle board club. The location would be in the arena with courts painted on the floor. We were advised that there is a Canadian Shuffle Board Club of which it is hoped Port Perry would become a member. This would be a sum- mertime game and the idea was sparked by all the snowbi rds re- turning from their winter nest- ing grounds. Play would cease once the ice was installed in the rink. This might auger well for Latcham Centre where the Sen- iors have never been able to get a sustained program on the courts we have there. Winners of the lucky draws were: Chester Fletcher, Myrtle Prentice, Jim Redman, Marion Cawker and Lola McEachern. There will be a euchre next Wednesday, May 20, and Wednesday, June 3 at 2 p.m. Also on Saturday, May 23 and Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and we all prepared for our monthly pot luck supper at 5 p.m. One is sure well fed at our pot lucks and our thanks go out to all the women who contribute to such wonderful meals. The evenings entertainment consisted of a kitchen band in which all members in the audi- ence were given kitchen uten- sils of some sort on which to play or more accurately, "make a noise'. We were led by three enterprising Seniors from Bea- verton, Mr. and Mrs. Western and Ruth Johnston. It was something really different and very entertaining. Had our kids witnessed it they would have had us all committed for senili- ty which may not be too far from the truth. It was a fun eve- ning and we thank the enter- tainment committee for arrang- ing it. That's all for now, we'll gee you in two weeks, god will- ing. the library room of the hospital. Following the meeting we will have an auction sale, so ladies do not forget to bring your arti- cles you would like to have sold. A motion was then made by Luella and seconded by Isabel that we adjourn this being fol- lowed by our tag day report. Sincere thanks goes to all the friends of the hospital who gen- erously donated to make our auxiliary tag days so successful on a rainy Friday and a rainer Saturday. Thanks tor all the shop own- ers who allowed damp and cold taggers to stand inside their shops. Our total for the two days was $2,951.37, which is $457.35 more than last year. Since our April meeting 15313 pennies have been hand- ed in. This makes a grand total today of 44,7989 pennies or $4,479.89. Will we reach our target of half a million by the one year mark? Watch for a detailed re- portin June. PORT PERRY PRINCE ALBERT UNITED CHURCH Ministers Rev. D. Robert J. LePage, B.A., M. Div. Michelle Hofman, B.A., M.R.E.
