Participating packs were from Cannington, Cartwright, Seagave, Scugog Island, -- Na rgrounds on Saturday and gy for 23rd On Saturday morning eight cub packs from Pine Ridge Dis- trict converged on the Port Perry Fairgrounds to hold their 23rd Annual Cuboree. Groups from Cartwright, Scugog Island, Port Perry, Sea- grave, Cannington, Uxbridge and Prince Albert/Manchester took part in the day long events with an overnight camp option- al. This year's Cuboree theme was "Cubbing Around the World" and was put on by the Pine Ridge District Cub Service Team. Each group had previ- ously chosen a country to learn about and had made displays of coins, sports, climate, maps and flags while at the same time learning about cub programs in that country. Mexico, Haiti, Germany, Japan, Bermuda, Australia, England and Hol- land were the chosen countries. Ontario Hydro also offered a safety display which the boys enjoyed. The day was opened with a parade of flags of the countries as well as their cub flags after which District Commissioner Len Skidmore officially opened the event. On hand for the event was Ruth Collins, District Pres- ident and Mayor Howard Hall who welcomed the cubs to Port Perry and a day of fun. During the day the groups rotated to view each of the displays and play a game representative of that country. Although the weather did not co-operate and the boys got rained on several times their scouting spirit per- severed. During the day the Service Team viewed the displays and observed each group do their opening and awarded points. At the end of the day when the points were tallied Port Perry had came third, Seagrave sec- ond and Cannington first. These two groups displayed the true scouting spirit and made the best of the weather. Because of the rain an indoor camp fire was held, led by Donna Lonergan of 1st Sea- grave, afterwards the boys en- joyed hot chocolate, indoor games and a movie in the Chris- tie Building. The boys then re- tired to warm sleeping bags and cold damp tents, exhausted af- terlearning and playing hard. The boys woke up the next morning to outside tempera- ture of approximately 40 de- grees C, but were soon up and again doing the things they en- oy. ! A Scouts Own was held for the two groups with badges be- ing awarded to finish off the year. 1st Port Perry awarded its annual "Bike Rodeo" trophy to Lyle Dufoe who had the most points in a previously held event. A big thank you is owed to the fair board for the use of the fairgrounds as well as the building ensuring the cubs a weekend of fun. Durham County DHI awards By Joel Bagg, Farm Manage- ment Specialist Henry and Terry Wygerde, Nestleton, were presented the Welcome Feeds Award for High Production Herd at the Durham County Dairy Herd Improve- ment Annual Meeting. Their 1991 BCA was 191 - 199 - 202 with a composite of 197.3 on 46 records. Willdina Hoslteins, Bowmanville was runner up with a 197.3 composite BCA on 36 records. Other herds in the top five were David and Ingrid Larmer, Blackstock, Youngfield Farms Ltd., Nestleton, and Peter Sik- ma, Newcastle. The Royal Bank Award for Most Improved Production was presented to Ralph and Grant Glaspell, Bowmanville, with an increase of 30.3 pts. The Durham County Farm- er's Co-op Award for best Calv- ing Interval was won by John and Laura Heeringa, Black- stock, with a12.0 month calving interval. The Shurgain Award for Highest Composite Production Cow was awarded to Willdina Hoslteins. The cow, Willdina Star Roxy, completed a three year old record with BCAs of 259 - 244- 264.
