A great turnout at the Rabies a rT------ Clinic on Saturday with close to 400 pets being protected. Many thanks to those sweet volun- teers who sat at the Prince Al- bert Hall to help Dr. Keith. Not only did you help to raise money for the church but you also may have saved our precious pets from rabies. If you have any news I'll be at the soccer fields three nights a week. But this week we spend two nights in Pickering. Have a great week. Please take time to notice the beautiful flowers and take time to say something nice to someone you love. I survived being a curling widow last winter but now I'm a sailing widow. In the freezing cold John just had to try out his We really got spoiled last week, with such beautiful weather and didn't believe it could change so drastically un- til we were reminded of the year Montreal had three inch hail- stones. At least this weekend the mosquitoes were hiding. We are pleased to hear that Ethel Freeman was home for the long weekend. The different organizations are being reminded of their ser- vices at the Hospital Tuck Shop after the summer rest. The "Head" U.C.W. will be serving very soon, including this week. But here's the other side of the story - a group called SPAM who met in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Edin- burgh. This group of teenagers dis- cuss the problems of the old and sick, but they do more than just talk. One of them, a pleasant young man called Gary, visited my father when he became bed- ridden with cancer. He intro- duced himself and asked if he could visit every week. My fa- ther accepted gratefully, but pointed out he was not of their faith, so would he still want to come? Gary said it made no dif- ference. When my father's health be- came worse, he visited two or three times a week, and the week before he died , Gary visit- ed him and sat with him every evening. He even came to the funeral with some of his group. He and his friends will never know how much this meant to us, and it gave us new heart. You know, despite all you hear and all you read, this kind of thing is going on all the time, = in your town and mine. Golden Anniversary On Sunday, May 17, 1992 the weather was perfect for a life- long couple of our area, Les and Grace Beacock who are grateful for the golden years of married life. Therefore, their sons Don- ald, Grant and Bryan plus near relatives and friends arranged an "Open House" which was held in Prince Albert Communi- ty Centre. At 2 p.m. Rev. R. LeP- age voiced a sincere and witty message prior to over 200 folk who filed through the door. The bride was in a floral dress and wore an heirloom which was her gramma Vickery's gold locket. The groom wore the usu- al boutonniere. Their five grandsons were present to meet the old and young. Pouring tea during the afternoon was a sister-in-law Florence Beacock and the bride's sister Mary Devitt who was their bridesmaid 50 years ago. The tasty and liberal lunch was catered to by Prince Albert U.C.W. The celebrants received sev- eral parliamentary tributes from Mayor H. Hall and R. Ste- venson M.P. for Durham. Guests were present from To- ronto, Orillia, Bobcaygeon, Co- boconk, Lindsay, Oshawa, Blackstock and other local points. Arriving home tired but joy- ous a "great surprise" a deli- cious salad buffet was all ready for the immediate family. This generous gesture was made pos- sible by Mary Devitt and her daughter Barbara Bock. The entire event has left lov- ing and lasting memories. D. J.
