Paddlers dive into 24th canoe-a-thon If you thought paddling one's way through the Canoe the Nonquon race was hard, you should try it this way. Unfamiliar with the popular way of finishing the race, Andrea James and Dave Barton of Uxbridge try swimming their canoe to the finish line. Helping them out was their friend Ben who suggested they clench the canoe with their teeth, therefore free- S EET SS ing up their front and back paws -- er, arms and legs -- for swimming. For their antics, An- Canoeists paddle down the Nonquon River near Seagrave. drea and Dave were presented with two new life jackets courtesy of Haugen's Chicken Bar And the g= winners Fo are... (Top left) Steve deHaas and Rob Page have been competing in the canoe race for about 10 years. Al- though the duo didn't have time to prepare for the race this year, they managed to win the recreational category. (Top right) The race is a family affair for Don and Karen Kett. The veteran participants won the family junior-senior division. (Bottom left) Richie Tripp and Graham Holt have entered the race three times and have won the 17 and under category each time. (Bottom middle) Marvin Doran and John Hiley of Richmond, Ontario won the masters division for the second year in a row. (Bottom right) Victor Dunn and Rene Boogemans won the C2 category.
