The ladies were pleased to welcome Carol Nottingham, a former resident of the Island who has returned to Fralick's Beach. During roll call members were required to state the possi- bilities of their gardens. Most reported that their husbands are making valiant efforts with lots of courage for better days. The main results so far seem to have been lots of mosquitoes to accompany the efforts. After the usual period of wor- a | business discussion n- volved plans for Museum Days and strawberry supplies. The "Grace" U.C.W. held a yard sale on Saturday but they were not too happy with the re- sults as the weather did not cooperate. Next Sunday, June 14 will be an outdoor farming church ser- vice for the pastoral charge of the United Church held at the home of Betty and Nelson Read- er, followed by a picnic lunch. However, after more detailed technical investigations, a short list of four The Interim Waste Authority, a Crown corporation, has identified a list of candi- date landfill sites to meet the long-term waste disposal needs of the Region of Durham. These sites, shown here, have been selected because of environmental considerations. Conference expect to bring greetings and describe the role of the church in rural/urban is- sues. Following this a committee of local f&rmers has planned a tour of four farms where we can learn first hand about farming today. As far as we know, this is the first time a pastoral charge has planned an event like this so we r be making history. This should be news for the local pa- pers. Everyone is welcome. In case the weather does not coop- erate the service and picnic will be held at the church. The following Sunday will be Father's Day hopefully with a large men's choir at the Island United. Are you buying your reserved - tickets from Dennis Sims 985- 2255 for the Strawberry Supper at the end of June? The roof on the Island United Church has been completed. It was hoped that a parking lot to keep cars off the road would be the next consideration but it seems that the signs of the times has affected the regular church donations as has hap- pened in many areas. Can you give this your consideration? Congratulations to another life long resident of Scugog as we follow Gary Edgar's speech at the "Head" Museum Church. Even in school days he was rec- ognized as a clever, likeable boy interested in sports and fair play. After years of study and experience he deserves credit in deciding to improve the better- ment of thelife of his ancestors. Here s"a set of riddles worth thinking about. What enriches the receiver without making poorer the giv- er? What can no one, be he ever so rich, get along without? What has no value until itis giv- en away? What cannot be begged, bor- rowed or stolen? What costs nothing, but gives much? What can take but a moment al- though the memory of it can last a lifetime? The answer to each one, is the same -- a smile.
