Church plans a Farming Sunday The Scugog Island and Manchester United Church con- gregations will celebrate farming during a special Farming Sunday service and tour on Sunday, June 14. Elaine Barber, Scugog Island and Manchester United Church minister, said the day was planned to "raise aware- ness of farming." The day will focus on food production farms, she said. "We go to the store and buy food, but where does that food come from?" A self-proclaimed "city girl", Mrs. Barber said the Farm- ing Sunday is "mainly for me." But she hopes the day will be beneficial to other members of the congregation and any visi- tors who wish to attend. Stating that there have been a number of changes in farm- ing over the years, she hopes the day will be of interest to non- farmers and those who have retired from the profession. The celebration will begin with an outdoor service at 11 a.m. at Nelson and Betty Reader's farm which is located on the south side of 7A Highway opposite the Island Road. The husband and wife team of Tom and Norma Thompson will be the guest speakers during the service. The Thompsons operate a farm in the Campbellford-Belleville area and are the Presidents-Designate for the Bay of Quinte Conference. Special music will be supplied by the Golden Slippers. After the service, the congregation will enjoy a picnic | .. tunch together before touring four local farms: Chiff Redman's dairy farm, Glen Wilson's cow/calf operation, Larry Fagel's ap- ple orchard, and Bill Lamb's pig farm.
