Elizabeth Taylor and Earl ac- companied by Jack and Nancy Evans attended the memorial service at Erskine on Sunday. Last Tuesday, Epsom U.C.W. were joined by friends from Pine Grove and Glen Major for a potluck noon lunch at the home of Eileen Slute. We all en- joyed hearing the history of Glen Major by Jennie Johnson and to wander around the beau- tiful flower gardens were mo- ments to be treasured. Thank you Eileen for a beautiful meet- ing. We missed our pianist and our president. Hope you are soon feeling fine, Faye. Congratulations to Allan and Brenda Bailey who were mar- ried on Saturday on Scugog Is- land. Allan drove his decorated antique car. Bill and Mary Prentice stood up with them and Brenda's younger son was ring bearer. The Masonic Hall at Port Perry was the location of the wedding dance, when friends called to wish them hap- piness. Sunday was Decoration Ser- vice at Utica. Rev. Jim conduct- ed the service and our dear friend Rev. Edith Anne Schanty delivered the sermon. Dorothy and Rae Munro at- tended the violin recital in Ux- bridge last Wednesday when their grandson Matthew So- merville was one of the students performing. Yesterday was Sunday School Graduation at Epsom Church. The children took the service. After a bountiful pot- luck picnic lunch games for young and old were enjoyed by all. Bibles were presented to Ja- son Van Veghel and Danny Southerland. Jerrold and Joan Asling of Hanover visited Stella and Donald Asling Saturday. Communion will be held at Utica next Sunday at 11 a.m. Canada Day planning com- mittee meeting this Wednes- day,June 17 at 8 p.m. The Baster family hosted a picnic for the Peddie family this past Sunday. Marie Wilson attended a pia- no recital at which her grand- children Andrew and Joanne Archibald performed, last Sat- urday at Zepher Church. Will all those planning to be in the Canada Day 125 Parade on June 27 in Epsom please meet at Epsom Church, as the parade will start at 1 p.m Don and Millie Allison, of Unionville, John and Isabel Nigh of Stouffville and Maurice and Marydale Tapscott were IA ICL @ 8 FAAS SPT FF so usical Saturday evening dinner guests with Norman and Betty Tapscott. Congratulations to Anne and Ed Watson who have just cele- brated their wedding anniver- sary. We hope each year will be better than the last. Now for a bit of school news - Last day of school is Wednes- day, June 24. Report cards will be handed out June 24. At Epsom in Sept. our classes will be organized as follows: Primary Behaviour Class - Mrs. Linton. Grades 1 and 2 - Mrs. Dorig. Grade 2 and 3 - Mr. Scott and Mrs. Adderly. Grades 3-4 - Mrs. Beirness. Grades 5-6 - Miss Snider, Mrs. Cooper. Ac- ademic Resource - Mrs. Breen. Assistant to principal - Mr. Scott. Sec. - Mrs. Scott. Librari- an - Mrs. Atkinson. S.A.C. (School Advisory Com- mittee) have done a wonderful job, organizing fundraisers. The money raised was used: (1) computer purchases; (2) stu- dent trips; (3) playground equipment; (4) cultural input to our students. . The Epsom baseball diamond has been upgraded. June 2 - Grades 3/4, 5/6 class- es visited the Science Centre, Toronto. Wednesday, June 17, Grades 1 and 2 will visit Toron- to zoo. June 19 - Parent Volunteer Tea at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m., Grade 6 graduation. All parents wel- come. On May 23, the graduating class saw the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" in Toronto. Monday, June 22 - Play Day at Epsom. I wish some time that I could tell you exactly what Epsom School was like when I started there 80 years ago. John and Dorothy Simpson of Pontypool and Mr. Ern Simp- son of Uxbridge were Sunday night supper guests with Earl and Marie Wilson. Durham Regional Police's Marine Unit has a new boat to enforce the laws on Lake Scugog PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 16, 1992 - 29 and Lake Simcoe this summer. The 27-foot Baha cruiser hit the waters on June 4 and will be out in the waters until the fall. Pictured is the two-man marine unit, Constables Brian Hall and Doug Cavanaugh. Strawberry supper June 28 Mrs. Shirley Garvey from North Carolina has been visit- ing with her mother Florence Smith for the past two weeks. Several of Eileen Hodgins friends took her out to lunch last Monday to help her cele- brate her birthday. She also re- ceived a telephone call from her daughter Heather in Australia. On Wednesday evening 12 la- dies attended the U.C.W. meet- ing. Everyone enjoyed the guest speaker Janet Banting and her topic "Are we being brain- washed and what can we do about the environment?" On July 8 all U.C.W. members and ladies of the church are in- vited to Hildy Smiths in Castle Harbour for a picnic and fun time. On Thursday evening, 10 ta- bles were filled at the weekly euchre.
