However, I'm sure in a few days we'll be back to normal temperatures. On Sunday, June 14, Rev. Wm. Perry from Penticton, B.C. was the guest minister at Burns. Bill was a student minis- ter at Ashburn during the early 60s. It was nice to have him back in the area again. Andrea and Dana Humphrey from San Francisco are visiting with their grandparents Ernie and Catherine Humphrey. Congratulations to Ross and Diane Batten on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniver- sary. On Friday evening, 75 or more relatives and friends gath- ered together at the home of Bruce and Donna Deakin to wish them well on this happy occasion. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, and had many laughs during a mock wedding with Art Matthews of- ficiating. Ross and Diane were escorted to the Deakin's home is a 1967 red Volkswagon Bee- tle. Last Saturday morning, sev- eral Ashburn residents attend- ed the baptism and reception of the three children of Brent and Francis Straughan; Donald Koe, and Eric and Enid Larsen, at the Seventh-Day Adventists Church, Oshawa. Other rela- tives of the family were also in attendance. The annual Iris Show was held at Burns Church on Mon- "day evening, June 8. This was a small show as the result of our backward season. Total number of entries for the show was 47 and only 26 of those being Iris specimens. Best Iris award went to Ken Brown, and best decorative to Norma Ingleton for her arrangement of "Pioneer Beginnings." Wednesday night of this week is show time again, to be held at Brooklin United Church. This will be the Rose Show and general meeting. Speaker for the evening will be Gary Snelling whose subject will be "Consider the Lily." Thursday evening of this week is euchre night again at the Community Centre. Come out and enjoy a good time with friends and neighbors. Elaine Ewing and baby son Eric of Orangeville, visited last week with Elaine's parents Theo and Joan Knight. Bill, Bernice and Jean Gard- ner, accompanied by Rees and Blanche Williams enjoyed a trip to Toronto and went to the har- bor, and viewed the Bluenose Sailing Ship from Nova Scotia, and then to the Queens Quay. Muriel Fisher, Margaret Da- vis, Florence Ashton and Eileen Slute of Utica, and Barb Porter recently enjoyed a lovely bus trip to Columbus, Ohio, attend- ing a dinner theatre at Canton Ohio {Seven Brides for Seven Brothers}, the Red Skelton Show and the Irish Rovers. We also visited Ameriflora which is the first international floral and garden show to be held in the United States. This also commemorated the 500th anni- versary of Christopher Colum- bus' discovery of America. Next Sunday, at Burns Church, there will be no Sunday School. The pupils will be join- ing the regular church service at 11:15 a.m. and will be taking - part in the service. Parents are urged to join their youngsters at this service. It was nice to see some of our Junior Garden Club on this trip. Our next meeting on July 7 is the flower, rose and vegetable show and guest speaker for the evening is Sher Leetooze on edi- ble and non-edible plants. On July 13 we are having a bus trip to the Thousand Is- lands for a three hour cruise. Tickets are available at Lizy- Lou Color Craft or at the July 7 meeting. Tickets are going fast, so please get them early. For more information call S. Love 986-5330. There will be no meetings for the juniors July and August, but don't forget your entries for the July show. The Senior Garden Club meets at 8 p.m. at the Nestleton Hall and a cordial invitation is extended to all.
