Great time for home tune-up Now that spring is in full bloom and summer is just around the corner, most homeowners have shaken off their winter lethargy and are well into their annual spring/ summer spruce-up rou- tines. It's an excellent time of year to tidy and tune up your home, both inside and out. After withstand- ing the ravages of the harshest season of the year, doesn't your home deserve ment? By taking the time now to keep your home and property in good shape, you'll be saving in the long run. A little ongoing sea- sonal maintenance is a lot easier to deal with than a major, expensive cleanup job somewhere down the road. Check for Damage First of all, check your property for any visible signs of damage. Dead or special treat- broken tree branches should be removed, along with any other yard de- bris. Also check your driveway and sidewalks for signs of damage such as heavingor cracking. You should also check for cracks in the founda- tion, missing or rotten shingles, loose or rotten bricks and mortar in your chimney, signs of water seepage near the founda- tion and cracked or loose fitting windows. Any dam- 'damaged age should be noted and fixed. Roofs and Eavestroughs It's essential to pay close attention to your roof, particularly if it's old and will soon need to be re- placed. Look for loose or shingles and check the flashing around your chimney. Problems with roofs and eaves- troughs can become much more apparent with heavy 7 spring and summer rains - - 80 be prepared, before water actually starts seeping into your attic. If you know you need a new roof, now is the time to get estimates from roof- ers. It's also important to check your eavestroughs and downspouts for signs of dislocation or damage such as rust, holes, warp- ing and buildup of debris.
