Just after midnight, Dhian Thapar, aged 52 years was shot in his vehiclé in his driveway at 31 Silverbirch Place. Mr. Tha- par died at the scene and a post- mortem examination revealed that the victim died of gunshot wounds. No weapon has been found. Crime Stoppers are asking that anyone who saw Mr. Tha- par on Friday, Feb. 21, 1992, driving a gold Mercedes with personalized Ontario licence plates "THAPAR" to call us. Crime Stoppers are further ask- ing anyone with any informa- tion that could assist with the investigation into Mr. Thapar's death to phone Crime Stoppers at436-8477 that's 436-TIPS. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person {or persons} responsible for this tragic event. Canada Post to sponsor short story cOntest at literary event "The Word On The Street," 'Canada's largest outdoor cele- bration of literacy and the print- ed word, has announced its first annual Science Fiction Short Story Contest. The contest, sponsored by Canada Post Corporation, is open to writers of all ages. Sci-fi' entries must be unpublished, and not exceed 2,600 words. First prize is $500. Second prize is $200. First and second place winning stories will be pub- lished in a pamphlet to be avail- able for sale at "The Word On The Street." The third annual "The Word On The Street" is a large scale outdoor book and magazine fair, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 27. As in the past, the fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Queen Street West from McCaul to Spadina. Last year, "The Word On The Street" attracted 80,000 visitors.
