"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" Letlters to the editor Other parks need attention To the Editor: It was with some anger that I read the front page column of the June 23 Star, "park and boardwalk planned for Port Perry," "long-term tourist strat- egy proposed," and then "new signs beautified with landscap- ing." These followed June 16 - "Park project to start soon" and Mayor Hall's dream of a conven- tion centre and hotel for Port Perry in yet another edition. Palmer Park is beautiful and truly enhances the waterfront. However, I for one, do not take my children to play at this park. This is probably a good thing, because if everyone in the town- ship did, there would not be enough space or facilities for all the children. I felt it was time for someone to speak up for the other villag- es of Scugog. I live in Blackstock and earli- er this year we had trouble get- ting someone to fix the "climb- er" at our park by the Rec. Centre. Last year the nursery school provided funding to have a park bench putin. Notably Mrs. Pearce says "the days are gone where parks are placed in the middle of sub- divisions as islands." I would suggest the residents of Greens- boro Drive {a subdivision with vacant land at the north end, designated for a park} that still lies empty and the residents liv- ing with in the Crestview Park area would not agree with Mrs. Pearce. I'm sure that many would be happy to have their "islands." I would point out that villages such as Nestleton and Caesar- ea, Blackstock and Greenbank, and those not mentioned, all have parks with specific needs and various potentials. I hope that Mrs. Pearce, as Chairman of the Parks and Rec- reation Committee has given some thought to these villages and that they are included in her long term vision. It would be nice to be able to offer our tourists some well maintained options when all the bases are loaded on the wa- terfront. We are all part of the whole of Scugog Township! Wilma Wotten, Blackstock. Thank you To the Editor: Thank you very much for helping me out with the last let- ter to the editor that I wrote you in the Port Perry Star. Things are improving in cutting down on young people from speeding on Water Street and the main street. I know the police can't be everywhere at once but they have lots of work to do in improving this speeding' up and down. The other week it took myself and someone else 40 minutes to cross the road. Is this Mosport track? I'm not go- ing to give up yet. I'm sorry, but I will continue to fight for this as long as I can before someone or a child gets killed. I'm going to continue to force the law of the speed limit on the main street, Couldn't you please put a speeding sign up on the main street and Water Street? Maybe that may help.
