lS RE pi VCH SR wb ------------------ I "A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 30, 1992 - 5 Developer wants council to give green light on Union Ave. project A local developer called on council to give his company the go ahead on a housing develop- mentin Prince Albert. Ted Griffen, a member of Vanedward Developments Councillor disturbed by attitude Ward 1 Councillor Ken Car- ruthers says he is a little dis- turbed by the apathetic attitude the publicis taking in regards to the fight against the landfill sites. Too many residents are just shrugging their shoulders and thisbothers him, he says. Councillor Carruthers says a landfill site could significantly harm a township such as Scu- gog for years to come. He notes that a dump will especially harm agriculture and tourism, the two most important indus- tries in Scugog. He says if this occurs Scugog will become "nothing more than abedroom community." "We have such a beautiful community. It's got a delicate balance," he said. "But it could change 100 per cent if this hap- pens." In order to get the community more involved an open meeting is scheduled for July 5 in Port Perry. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Town Hall 1873. Those attending the meeting are requested to bring theirown coffee mugs to reduce garbage. Coffee will be served at the be- ginning and during the meet- ing. PET OF THE WEEK This week's pet of the week is a male black lab, found in Scu- gog on the Second Concession. He is approximately two years old, and is very well trained. There are also many adult cats and kittens available for adoption. If you are interested in adopt- ing these, or any other pets, please call the Uxbridge- Scugog Animal Control Centre at 985-9547. A hia a a ea a a SRE which is proposing a subdivi- sion on Union Avenue in Prince Albert, appeared before council on Monday to ask council to con- sider his request for zoning amendments. The developers have been at- tempting for some time to per- suade council to approve their official plan ammendment and zoning bylaw to conform with the subdivision plan. Vanedward Developments is proposing a 144-unit suybdivi- sion in Prince Albert. This sub- division would consist of 92 sin- a gle units, 34 semi-detached units and 18 townhouses. "I came here today to start the process," Mr. Griffen said. He pointed to the fact the de- velopment was needed in the area for two reasons. Not only is there a need for construction Jobs, but there was also a need for more affordable housing in Scugog. "I want to get going on it as soon as we can," he said. Mr. Griffen predicts ground will broken on the property 18 to 24 months after the approvals are given.
