| EINE aaa 5 "A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 7, 1992 - 29 Bantam reps tie Pickering On June 29, Port travelled to Pickering for a re-match after losing to them on May 26 at Pickering 11-6. This game was played after a Niagara Falls Tournament on June 27 where- by Port's batters were again quiet, losing 2-0 Jarvis; 12-4 to Cambridge and 6-1 Niagara Falls. During the tournament Mike Underwood pitched a dynamite game against Jarvis striking out nirie batters, allowing four hits and walked four. In this game Port had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, in the 3rd and 7th, but unfortunately, could not steal or bat a run across home plate. This defeat, unfortunately, took some steam out of the players and we could not muster sufficient offense to get back into the remaining games. Although Port lost three games, we know, that with eve- ryone working a little harder at the plate, the games could have been reversed. Now on to the Pickering game. Bill started this game giving Mike a well desired rest after the weekend tournament. Kenton started Port off with a double and after stealing 3rd base, Joe drove him home to give Port an early 1-0 score, owever, Pickering scored two runs, one unearnpd giving them a 2-1 lead after one in- ning. Port went 1-2-3 in the 2nd and Bill struck out two in the 2nd. There was no scoring in the 3rd. In the 4th, Bill singled and BJ drove him home to make the game 2-2 and Pickering did not score in their half. In the 6th, Mike was the first batter and unleashed a mighty swing for a home run making the score 3-2 Port. In the bottom of the 6th, Pickering's first batter singled and scored on a sacrifice ground out to tie the game 3-3. To begin the 7th, Port's first two batters flied out and our next two batters were on 1st and 2nd base but could not score. Pickering went 1-2-8 in the 7th inning and final score 3- in this was a team effort whereby "we had great defen- sive plays by Chad, Paul, BJ, Bill, Dave B and Jake. Also Port was robbed by two line drives to their pitcher, one by Chad and Jason and also their first base grabbed bullet drives from Chad, Dave and Paul. Bill pitched seven innings allowing six hits, seven K's and walked two. Port's stats: Home run - Mike; double - Jake; single - Paul, Kenton, Chad (two), Bill, Collin (two); walks - Joe, Dave B; runners left on base - nine. Come out and support the boys. This week's schedule - July 7 Port at Oshawa, and July 11 Cobourg Tournament. Next home game - Tuesday at 8:30 p.m., July 14 Bramalea at Port, north diamond. In this game, four regular players were away and with only nine players, Port took to the field with Mike Underwood, starting the game. Port held Oshawa scoreless in the first inning and Port sent all nine batters to the plate in the first inning scoring eight runs. However, Port's bats left them after the first inning as they only had three singles over the next five innings and were held scoreless. Oshawa scored one run in the 3rd and another run in the 5th to make the final score 8-2 for Port. Mike pitched seven in- nings allowing seven hits struck out four and walked three.
