FIRST CHOICE Summer has finally ar- rived and you're probably in the midst of planning a special vacation. But be- fore you get completely lost in daydreams about lazy, sun-filled afternoons at the cottage or camping in a wooded glen, turn your thoughts homeward for a few minutes. Have you given much thought to the. security and general well-being of your home while you plan to be away? Have you ar- ranged for someone to check the house, collect the mail, water the flow- ers and mow the lawn? If you haven't, you'll be mak- ing it clear to all passers- by (including would-be thieves] that no one is home. By taking a few simple steps now and planning for the care of your home while you're away, you'll rest much easier knowing that everything is taken care of and that your home will be safe and sound upon your return. Make a Checklist A few weeks before your scheduled vacation, it's an excellent idea to make a comprehensive checklist of all the arrangements that need to be made. First, be sure to cancel the delivery of all newspa- pers and mail for the dura- tion of your vacation. To make sure this occurs on target, you may want to cancel these deliveries a Protecting your empty couple of days before your actual departure. You may also wish these ser- vices to resume the exact day of your return, or a day or two afterwards. In any case, be sure to give enough notice. Also arrange for a near- by friend or relative to look after your house both inside and out. You can ask them to mow the lawn and water your garden, and check your house eve- ry other day to spot any small problems before they turn into bigger ones. Also ask them to re- move any advertising fly- ers or brochures which get left on your doorstep while you're away. These can pile up quite quickly after a couple of weeks, and their presence is a clear indication that no one is home. It's also advisable to let your immediate neighbors know you'll be away so Turnto Page 3 ome =, REMIX An mternatumal netuork of mdependent meminy brokers RE/MAX scugog realty limited 144 QUEEN ST. - PORT PERRY - 985-4427 fi Ir '¥ iY ty A \ w 416-428-1332. % GREAT LOCATION - ONLY 2 MILES TO PORT P ERRY Let's Make A Deal - Beautifully treed 175 x 250' lot, complete with 16' x 32' inground pool.
