"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" To meet Campbelliford in OASA playoffs PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, August, 5, 1992 - 23 Squirt Legionaires win two in league action Port Perry's all-star fastball squirt team won two games in the York Durham League last week. On July 29 they travelled to Nestleton to face our Cart- wright neighbors and won by a 19-6 margin. Oshawa visited Port Perry on July 30 and were victimized by a late game rally as our squad overcame a listless start and went on to a 9-3 victo- ry. At Cartwright, the Legion- aires were led offensively by Ryan McQuade who banged out two triples in addition to two other hits. Jeff Ashton and Ca- sey Van Schagen each collected three hits, Ryan Moynes had two hits while Ryan Fraser and Scott Jeffrey each contributed singles. Michael Versage drew four walks while Reid McTag- gart earned three free passes. Chris Jones pitched the win and allowed just one hit while Jon Froats got the save in his first appearance on the rubber this season. Jeff and Casey com- bined for a nice tag out on an at- tempted second base steal. Dar- ryl Dalton and Ryan Fraser covered their outfield defensive territory alertly for Port Perry. Oshawa'a starting pitcher perplexed our batters through three innings and Oshawa led 3-1 before the momentum swung our way. Chris pitched the complete game victory for his 17th win of the season against four losses. He had 13 strike outs and allowed just three hits despite having diffi- culty finding his rhythm in the early innings. The Legionaires' offense in this encounter was led by Ryan Moynes and Jon Froats with two hits each. Singles were hit by Ryan Fraser, Darryl, Chris and Ryan McQuade. Casey caught the Oshawa catcher napping and stole home for the first Port Perry run. Brad Mon- "sma played well defensively in addition to earning two walks .as did Reid and Michael Ver- Taylor Ford Mites continue winning Port Perry's representatives in the York Durham Fastball League Mite Division continue to implement their practice and game lessons and extended their win streak to three games by besting the Pickering Jrs. on the road July 28 by a 13-2 mar- gin. The Taylor-Ford team has now won five of their last six games and are starting to gel as a team. Pickering jumped out to a first inning 2-0 lead but our squad settled in, gained a lead of 3-2 at the end of the second and never looked back thereaf- ter. David Justynski got a key two-run hit in this inning and Port Perry resident Sandy Mark won flve of the swimming events at the Lake Scugog Regatta over the weekend in Cae- sarea. The three-day event featured fleld day events, as well as canoe and swimming events. See page 17 for more pictures. Chris Monsma and Adam Moynes both earned three walks while John Burnett had two. Darren Miller and Mike LeFort also earned free passes. Tim Jones recorded the win in his first career fastball start for Port Perry by striking out 12 of the 18 batters faced while al- lowing only two hits and two walks. Mark did a nice job be- hind the plate in this one and Mike LeFort saw his first career action behind the mask in the fi- nal inning. . A nice defensive play was made by Chris on a line drive to left field. Mark and Tim com- bined for a key tag out at home after a passed ball as well. Aa- ron Lycett played alertly as usual in his shortstop position. Keep up the positive momen- tum team! Good luck in your next home game Aug. 5, 6:30 p.m. on the Water Street south diamond against Newmarket. Hank's wins in Mite action Hank's Pastries defeated Schildt Machining 13-10 on Monday, July 27. It was a great night for Hanks after a couple of losses and a tie. Getting runs for Hank's were Devon Howsam, Bryan Tighe, Jeff Tarbotton, Christopher Milligan, Katie Partington and Kaine Van Asten. In the last in- ning Spencer Churchill got all three outs with a double play and help on first base from Dy- lan Harper. Good hits for Schildt Machin- ing were had by Derek Bond, Scott Evans and Ashley Al- dridge.
