Marilyn Pearce, Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Com- mittee, said the project will in- clude paving a portion of the parking lot, as well as the addi- tion of lights, grass and trees to the lot. The entrance way to the are- na and the remainder of the lot tothe west will be paved. The east side of the lot will re- main unpaved, due to the uncer- tainty of future entrances and roadways which will lead to the Scugog Centre, expected to be completed in 1994. The paved portion of the park- ing lot will accommodate 95 ve- hicles once the curbs are in place and the lines are painted. There will be an additional 100 spots on the unpaved portion of the lot. Residents in the south end of Seagrave along River Street have banded together to fight a proposed practice shooting range planned for a nearby gravel pit. Paul Flieler, who owns the parcel of land south of Cookson Lane is seeking council's ap- proval to continue practicing the shooting. Under the present bylaw Mr. Fheleris allowed to hunt on his property. He 1s seeking an am- mendment to the bylaw which would allow him to target shoot as well. Mr. Flieler told the Port Perry Star it would be a amall shoot- Ing area to be used solely by family members. He says the firearms would be used in a safe manner and said there was no danger of bullets ricocheting outofthe pit. But nearby residents have a somewhat different opinion of the matter. Norm Phillips, owner of Northwood Buffalo Ranch, an exotic amimal farm, 1s con- cerned about the safety of his family and hvestock if the shoot - ing continues. fr Phillips' home and farm area where the animals roam is less than 1,000 feet from the proposed site. He 1s concerned of the danger of ricocheting bul- lets striking his home or his farmly. "I can appreciate that the guy likes to shoot guns, but they're just too close to our house," Mr Phillip says. T understand the need to shoot, but he must respect his neighbors." He is also worried about his Turnto Page 12 ple a spot to wait for their ride, whichis off the parking lot. Mrs. Pearce told the Port Perry Star grass and trees will also be planted along the front of the building, giving it a fresh look. Four new lights will also be installed to brighten up the 2 SERN Ba #2 parking lot. The cost of the project is esti- mated at $75,000. Mrs. Pearce said the township sold a small piece of land near Centennial Lanes which covered $50,000 of the cost. The additional $25,000 came from the parks and municipal a lights will be added to enhance the property.
