Do try to at- tend and bring your friends. A silent collection will be taken. This event is sponsored by the Agricultural Society to start fair week. Recently Nancy and Bob Bryans were hosts for a pig roast for about 50 of their Flori- da Silk Oak Lodge neighbors and friends. An enjoyable time was had and about 15 came back for lunch the next day be- fore heading home. . Af- ter Jean Ferguson conducted a couple of interesting contests Anne Marie opened her many beautiful gifts. She thanked everyone for their best wishes and gifts. The afternoon con- cluded with a delicious lunch and much visiting. Sunday guests of David and Kathleen Petrie were Anne Ma- rie Scott, Alan Petrie, Bramal- ea; Charlie and Irene Scott, Trenton; Andrew and Jodie Pe- trie and Christopher, Bowman- ville; Lynn Popowich, Prince Al- bert; Dave Petrie. Ralph and Peggy Larmer have returned home from an en- joyable bus tour to Cape Cod and area. On the ferry to Nan- tucket Island they were sur- prised to meet Ken Crawford who was enjoying a motor tour appear Sunday evening of the Cape Cod area. Ken has also returned home from his holidays now. On Saturday evening a large crowd of Scugog residents at- tended the "Dump de Dump" Dance held in the Port Perry arena. This community surely sticks together when threat- ened by outside authority. On Thursday, Aug. 13 several of the Blackstock Women's In- stitute members gathered at the Port Perry Community Nursing Home to help celebrate the birthdays of those residents born in August. Two local peo- ple with August birthdays were Norman Samells, formerly of 'Nestleton and Tom Robbins, formerly of Caesarea. Others are Beckey Gray, Levina Par- kins, Allie Willis and Elwood Tripp. Eileen McLaughlin played for a sing-song directed by Pat Sleep and Kathleen Watts. There was a fashion show of hats depicting a song title. Ma- nuel Saltariche played the mouth organ. A lunch consist- ing of cake and ice cream was enjoyed by all. During lunch Melanie Devins of Iroquois Falls played a piano selection. The birthday people were each presented with a gift and a card. The Bryans and Alpe fami- lies attended the funeral and visitation at Armstrong's in Oshawa of Nancy's cousin Rick Gay's daughter Julie who was killed in a car accident Satur- day in Fenelon Falls. On Sunday Neil and Eleanor Werry hosted a family gather- ing in honor of Carol and Rob Mair's 20th Wedding Anniver- sary. Guests in addition to the bride and groom of 20 years were their family Katie and Steve Mair, Nestleton; Bernice and Norm Mair, Fleetwood; Diane and Julie Slute, Larry and Joanne Werry, Prince Al- bert; Ruth Thompson, The Vil- la, Port Perry; Neil and Elaine Bailey, Tara and Terry Taylor, Joy and Ian Rudkin, all of Blackstock; Howard and Julie Bailey, London. This is a beautiful 88 _ acre space of gardens and pavil- ions in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the coming of Christopher Columbus to America. They thoroughly en- joyed their few days of holidays. Holiday company visiting Al- bert and Kathleen Watts were Katherine and Melanie Devins, Rick and Chris Riley and Breanna all of Iroquois Falls and also Carolyn Redican, Pe- ter and Stephen of Bramalea. Nancy and Bob Bryans were guests at the marriage of Dan Temchishin (son of Marg and Alf of Scugog Island) to Pam Holly in Whitby. The United Church services return to regular schedule this coming Sunday with the return of Rev. Dale Davis and his wife Anita from their holidays. An enjoyable overnight stay at their cottage in the Fenelon falls area was had by Nancy Bryans and her grandchildren Leanna and Christina Bryans and Nathan Alpe. On the weekend John Black- stock and his daughter Eleanor and Herb Fousse and Tim of Rochester, N.Y. enjoyed visit- ing our village. Mr. Blackstock feels that Blackstock is named after a relative of his and so was interested in learning more of the background of our village. Maggie Van Camp spent an overnight with her parents-in- law Ruby and Richard Van Camp. She took Jill Van Camp with her to St. Thomas for the weekend. For the weekend Brian and Maggie along with Jill were going to visit Louise and Jeff Carroll, Anna and So- phie who are holidaying at Grand Bend. \_ by Helen McKean PR TY ry Nicole and Karie-Ann Gibson hosted a bridal shower for Cindy Christensen on Sunday at Nicole's home. About 25 la- dies enjoyed the lovely party and Cindy was really surprised. Belated birthday wishes to Judy Gibson who celebrated her birthday last week. A little bird told me, Judy. Recently the Wm. Earles greatly enjoyed having their youngest son, Martin from Win- nipeg spend a 10-day visit with them. Several ladies from Green- bank joined the Bethesda Insti- tute on a trip to Milton Agricul- ture Museum to attend the "Country Quilt Fest '92" on Sat- urday. The quilts and wall hangings were beautiful. Such busy fingers we women have! We drove to the "Hobby Horse Quilt Shop" in Georgetown and on to the Hyde House in Acton for dinner and more shopping. The weather was perfect. I visited Velma Foster in Port Perry hospital and she is anx- ious to get home. She looked so much better than the last time we saw her. Several Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and leaders ven- tured to the Girl Guide Camp in Haliburton. They all had a great time at Camp Adelaide with many adventures, stories, and new songs to sing and tell. Congratulations to Dot Hook- er for her recent success. Good work Dot!
