PETER HVIDSTEN / PORT PERRY STAR Port Perry Downtown BIA members who attended a general meeting last Tuesday at the Masonic Hall were informed of a new program being established by the provincial association which will offer savings to both its members and their employees. John A Totten, CEO of Ontario Downtowns outlined the new Corporate Partnership Program to about 35 business people. Known as the Corporate Partnership Program, the objec- tive is to provide benefits for members, members' employees and the association, and to gen- erate long-term revenues for both the local and provincial organizations. Five national corporations, IBM, Great Western Energy, Grand and Toy, Dial Telecom and the Smart Talk Network have already joined the program. Other partnerships being considered for the program are with major banks, a computer systems company, major office equipment suppliers, a barter- ing company, advertising com- panies and many more. Mr. Totten explained that the corporate partners provide acc- ess to their products and servic- es at discounted prices, or by way of rebates, and the local BIA will also receive some benefit. Ontario Downtowns provides for the corporate partners, rec- ognition and visibility through advertising in newsletters, spe- cial announcements, seminars, etc., and also an exclusive com- mitment to that partner for their goods or services. Following the presentation, local BIA members questioned the program, with one of the main concerns being programs which may conflict with local members' businesses. Mr. Totten said that while it is inevitable there will be some conflicts they will try to mini- mize the effects. However, he does feel the overall plan will help far more businesses than it will hurt. BIA chairman Ken Koury said the directors will be dis- cussing it at their next directors meeting, but he felt they would at least participate in some RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE BUS: 985-7351 FAX: 985-0870 5 High Street, Port Perry, Ontario L9L 1H8 RES: 985-81 63 An rospencenty Omred aro Oper awa Member Brower of Coowel!
