Are you looking for a fun way to get through the winter months? If so, ringette may be the activity youwhave been waiting for. It is a girls' team sport played on ice, filled with excitement, enthusiasm and fun, not just for the players, but for the whole family to enjoy. We invite and welcome all girls between the ages of 5-15 to come out and join in the fun that many girls on the Port Perry teams from Port Perry, Sea- grave, Blackstock, Burketon, reenbank, Uxbridge, etc., are already having. Registration for the 1992-93 season is set for Friday, Aug. 28 from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29 from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 30 from 2-4 p.m. at the Scu- gog Arena. ~The number of players has significantly increased over the past few years and it is antici- pated that this season will see the highest enrolment yet. Although ice time and overall operating costs have risen, the Ringette Association is pleased to announce that the registra- tion fees will remain the same as last year's fees thanks to our loyal sponsors and successful fundraising functions. The fee for one child per fami- ly is $165, two children $305, and three children $420. If your child is considering Joining ringette and you are not aware of the equipment neces- sary, come to the Scugog Arena for the skate and equipment ex- change at the same time as reg- istration. This is a great oppor- tunity to outfit your child with excellent equipment at a very reasonable cost. If you require assistance, please ask the Reg- i1strar. Rick Beare was on the mound for Port Perry. The team has now started its second round of playoffs against Norwood. Tripp Construction Juniors started a playoff series with Madoc. The IGA Pec Wees defeated East Woodlands 8-0 to eliminate them from further play. Rick Evans and Roland Skinner combined for great pitching. The team will now meet Trenton or Cobourg. 20 YEARS AGO WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23, 1972 Forty-three fishermen took part in the Fishing Derby hosted by Lake Scugog Marina. M. Gen- no of Scarborough had the largest lunge. It was 42" and weighed in at 18 pounds. Bill Salter of Port Perry caught a six pound, 20" bass for the largest bass on the day. The largest pickerel caught was two-and-one-half pounds and 16 inches in length. The marina will be putting on a second derby in September. 15 YEARS AGO WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 1977 Kathie and Carol Kane competed in the Elk Canoe Race and finished in second place. The six-mile race was held on Montreal River. Walter Pascoe of Port Perry was second in the Ontario Senior Horseshoe Pitching Champion- ships held at the CNE. Roy McLaughlin was fourth in the Class A Ontario Championships also held at the CNE. The host team, the Port Perry Canadian Tire Juniors was bumped from the tournament after a 6-2 loss to Morrisburg and a 2-0 loss to Belmore. The Cartwright Minor Softball finals are un- derway. David's Hairstyling defeated Caesarea Fish and Chips 17-11. Glenn White, Derrick Rowntree and Shawn McEnaney played well for David's and Donnie Hughes, Billy Allen and Pe- ter Simms shined for Caesarea. Mark Brown, 14, of Scugog Township placed first in two gymnastics events at the Peace Games held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
