"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 1, 1992 - 27 Robinglade residents enjoy outdoor roast This past weekend John and Kristy Ann Zidner enjoyed a visit from their long time friends Gary and Colleen Ogle- stone who travelled here in their motorhome from Calgary. Their children Bradley and Car- rie had a great weekend with the Zidner children, Michelle and John Phillip. Many Robinglade Estate resi- dents enjoyed a super corn and weiner roast this past weekend at the Robinglade park and 'ol man weather co-operated by giving us sunshine instead of rain even though it was cool. Everyone had a great time and we've all decided to make it a yearly event. So everyone mark your calendars for the 5th Sat- urday in August for next year and we may make it a pig roast. Call the Williams family who will be helping to organize it. Everyone that helped this year did a great job - thank you very much! Paul and Diane Cooke hosted their annual barbecue/swim party last Saturday. It was one of the few Saturdays where the weather was perfect for so much outdoor fun. All who attended had a wonderful time. Congratulations to Kay and Grant MacDonald on the recent birth of their third child, a boy "Matthew," 7 lbs. 6 ozs., born Monday, Aug. 24 in Oshawa Hurricane From Page 26 damage was done to his recent- ly decorated home, but heavy rains would have made the de- struction complete. A huge tree fell on the home of Jas. MacMillan on the Oshawa Road and the roof and wall were badly damaged. In fact a ticklish job ensued to re- move the monster without in- creasing the damage. A chicken house was completely demol- ished on the same property. Quite early in the evening the bandstand at the lakefront park was turned over and badly smashed. Numerous television aerials were brought down in this district and many roofs were blown off of barns in the area. Farmers are frantically at work to replace the covering be- fore crops are spoiled by rain. Insurance adjusters have been hard pressed to look over and appraise the damage and it will be some weeks before it is possible to estimate the com- plete loss. One insurance agent reports he has received more than 100 claims running from a few dol- lars to $3,000 to $4,000, all within 10 miles of Port Perry. So far we have received no word of anyone being injured although some narrow escapes are reported. Murray McLaren of Scugog, barely missed being struck by the roof of his barn when it was dumped into the barn yard. Earl Bradburn of Burketon is said to have been tossed and rolled by the wind but fortunately was not serious- ly injured. The greatest damage 1s re- ported to be in the Cartwright area, where the high winds caused considerable havoc. One metal barn, that of Grant Jack- son, Blackstock, was complete- ly demolished on top of his com- bine. It has been said that at least half the farms on the Cad- mus line east of Blackstock suf- fered some damage, much of it extensive. Word was received that quite a bit of damage was done to trees and tombstones in Pine General Hospital. Happy birthday to John Zid- ner (Lordy, Lordy, He's not 40 - doing fine at 49!)
