In this day and age when we hear so much about dishonesty and shoplifting, I was thrilled to experience so much honesty and parents who controlled the actions of their children; and frequently re- marked about it. However, there were instances when we missed serviettes, tapes and two items of costume jewelry. Brook McLaughlin, age 11 and living at Pine Ridge Pack- ers is a granddaughter of Har- W. At the fair Brook was hap- py to get first prize for her calf, second prize for her showman- ship, and second prize in an open Hereford class. Next she will take her calf to Lindsay. This young girl is full of ambi- tion and keeps her relatives busy including her well-known skater, mother Anna (Forder). A friend once said that on his way back from a holiday last year with his family, he got lost driving through a city. Tempers became frayed, and as they still had a long journey home, were rather despondent. Then a busload of Brownies passed, all looking happy and holding pieces of paper on which they had written "Please smile" and "Please Wave." Within minutes the whole family were waving happily. They noticed, too, many other drivers' glum faces turning to smiles. It's true, you know - "Laugh, and the world laughs with you." Recent travellers to Russia remark about the glum faces on the Russian people. One Russian on T.V. recently said he wished the people would soon learn to smile more. But I guess the years of bitter experiences have done this to them. However, I believe this happens all over and it's hard to smile through disaster. Attention Grace U.C.W. members - First meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. at the church. Acting classes for children Local stage director John H. Foote, a recent THEA award winner for his direction of The Crucible, will be offering a se- ries of acting sessions geared to- wards children and teens ages 8 - 15. Mr. Foote was so taken with the talent in Millar Lights pro- duction of The King and I, that he decided to offer the four ses- sion series in order to offer "act- ing without music." It is his hope that the four session series teaches young people to express their feelings creatively through the art of acting. Classes begin Monday, Sept. 21, 7-9 p.m. running through to Oct. 12 (four consecutive Mon- days). All classes take place at the town hall theatre in Port Perry. Cost for the series is $50 com- plete, but you must be regis- tered. Call 985-0611 to register now. Sounds like an exciting time for talented young people. | un - : | Weddin Anniversary & Birthday [Invitations » Fast, Efficient Service » Four Design Books » Book Lending Service | 10% OFF Complete Wedding Package Orders PORT PERRY STAR OFFICE CENTRE 188 Mary St. - Port Perry
