Mrs. Stell is the wife of the late Joseph Stell, also Stanley J. and Harold J. all deceased. She has one daughter, Alice (Mrs. J. Mulock) of Cannington and Gordon and Donna Stell of north Oshawa; and Howard and Evelyn Stell of R.R. 1 Brooklin, Ont. (Kinsale). When we see effects of the early morning frost last week we real- ize all too well that colder weather may be around the cor- ner. Many of our local residents will be involved with the Orono and Uxbridge fairs this coming week. Of course the Interna- tional Ploughing Match will be the following week in nearby Lindsay area. The annual Mountjoy Picnic was held at the beautiful home of Margaret Mountjoy last Sun- day with a good number of rela- tives from distant as well as lo- cal areas. In addition this gathering held a bridal shower in honor of Jeff and Andrea Byers who now live in Deep Riv- er. Sorry to report the passing of Arvilla Henry, long time resi- dent of Blackstock and for the past several years of Bowman- ville. Sympathy is extended to her son, Merrill of Bowmanville and daughter Lorraine (Webb) of Nova Scotia and their spous- es and families and other local relatives. The funeral was on Thursday. Noreen and Neil Malcolm have just returned from a short holiday in British Columbia where they visited Neil's sister Jean and James Millett of Rich- mond, B.C. They were accompa- nied by Howard and Eileen Mal. colm who also visited relatives in B.C. A surprise party was held last Sunday afternoon at Gord and Deb Bryans home for Deb's 30th birthday. Lunch on Friday noon was also enjoyed by the Alpe and Bryans at Nancy and Bobs for the occasion. Many relatives surprised her on Friday eve- ning at Bev and Shirley Blacks, Oshawa, her parent's home. An enjoyable supper of Chi- nese food was held at Babe and Wilf Browns when Wendy Kil- lens, Barb Hanc, Virgy Fairy all of Bowmanville along with Nan- cy Bryans celebrated their dad's 77th birthday Sept. 1 on Tues- day. [ots of Bryans birthdays - Nancy and Gord celebrated theirs Sept. 5 with Patti and Rick Alpe, Nathan and Emma, (Gord and Debbie, Leanna and Christina for lunch on Friday in Egypt. Dale and Janet Van Camp, Mary, Michael and David en- joyed a week's holiday at a cot- tage at Horseshoe Lake. As usual a large crowd en- joyed the fellowship, fun and en- tertainment at the Ross Steven- son barbecue on Wednesday evening here in Blackstock. Hazel and Jim Coates, Muriel and Henry Wotten enjoyed the weekend in Milton where they attended the Milton Steam Show. Better health is wished for Kathleen Dorrell who under- went surgery in Oshawa Hospi- tal recently. Your many friends wish you a speedy recovery. Saturday afternoon the sec- ond Mackin Family Picnic was held at Gord and Deb Bryans' home with about 35 enjoying the day. Registration for the Guides, Brownies and Pathfinders in- cluding those from Caesarea will be held on Monday, Sept. 14 at the United Church from 7-8 p.m. Fair board members are re- minded that there will not be a meeting this week at the regu- lar date because of Orono Fair. The next meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 8. There were 13 tables at the regular card party with the fol- lowing winners: Murray Geer, Doris Redman, Grant Bright, Charles Stapleton, Gladys Potts, Olive Ormiston, Ruby Smith and Mary Poots. Lucky draws were won by Arlene Warder, George Harper, Flor- ence Larmer, Harold Swain, Roy Werry and Jim Gibson. Lawrence Van Camp has re- turned home from his Junior Farmer exchange to Germany followed by a trip to the United Kingdom where a group of Jun- ior Farmer delegates toured England, Scotland and North- ern Ireland. They enjoyed visit- ing previous delegates who had visited Canada in previous years. I am sure we will enjoy hearing more about Lawrence's memorable summer. President Mrs. Eileen McLaughlin welcomed everyone. Theme of the Blackstock Fair display was Canada's 125th birthday party. A big thank you to all who helped with the display. Convention coming - Nov. 9- 10 at the Royal York Hotel. Branches are asked to bring banners made this year. Two invitations were read - Sept. 9 - Solina at 8 p.m. and Hampton's Fashion Show, Oct. 6-1:30 p.m. Many W.I. members had called on Mrs. McArthur while she was in Blackstock on Aug. 29 at Blair Martyn's residence. Mrs. Harold Martyn will be our speaker next month. Program convenor for Sep- tember was Mrs. Kathleen Watts on the theme Interna- tional Affairs. Roll Call - Something inde- spensible when travelling brought many laughs. Mrs. Watts led the ladies in a sing song. Guest speakers for the day in- troduced by Kathleen Watts were Mrs. Doris Hill and Mrs. Helen McKean from Greenbank who gave a travelogue on their trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
