ER Kim McLaughlin, interim curator of the Scugog Shores Mu- seum Village, spoke to students at R. H. Cornish Public School about Shoes from the Past on Friday afternoon. PEST elects its board members By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star Scugog had its own version of a constitutional debate recent- ly, but in the end a unanimous decision was reached. Preserve the Environment of Scugog Township (PEST), a group formed to fight the pro- posed landfill sites in the town- ship, held its annual general meeting last week. The prime purpose of the meeting was to adoptits constitution. Although the document even- tually received unanimous sup- port from its more than 30 mem- bers present, it took more than an hour of debate to come to a consensus. At the heart of the hour-long discussion was the wordingover a couple of key areas of the six page document including what constituted a quorum at meet- ings and what the exact imem- bership numbers were. A number of members were also selected as directors of the group. The members are; Roger Holtby, Bob McRae, Laura Wat- son, Glen Peters, Donna Shan- ley, Marg Baxter, Mary Ben- chops, Chervl Feasby, lisa Picture Yourself gg & Feasby, Dave Sparling, Paul Christie and Maureen Hall. Ken Carruthers, who serves as Acting Chairman, says the adoption of the constitution now formalizes the PEST group which has been in existence since June. He said the group must now elect its officers. One of the first orders for the group is the matter of a demon- stration. The group had planned a demonstration for mid-October but postponed plans after the Ontario govern- ment announced its decision to delay the short list of sites. Although PEST still intends to stage a demonstration, Mr. Carruthers expressed his oppo- sition to the scheme. Mr. Carrutherssays a demon- stration should be "an absolute last resort" and didn't feel such an act was necessary until the short list of sites was an- nounced. He said at that point all groups affected could co- ordinate their activities. "It's still too general," he said. "People don't react until it's too late." _ a > Call your auth Dealer for a FREE Estimate A.
