1.0 - PORT PERRY STAR - Real Estate Section - Tuesday, October 6, 1992 Crime Stoppers need help in solving robbery in Oshawa on Feb. 20 Crime Stoppers and the Dur- ham Regional Police need the public's help in solving a rob- bery which occurred in Oshawa on Feb. 20. On Thursday evening at ap- proximately 10:15 the male vic- tim was walking southbound on the bike path under Rossland Road near the Rossland Square. The victim was listening to his walkman when he was attacked from behind by three males and was struck over the head with a crowbar. The suspects then demanded that the victim turn over his wallet, walkman, and his shoes. After doing this the victim was struck on the leg with the crow- bar. Two of the suspects then grabbed the victim by his arms and legs and threw him into the open creek and then they fled the scene with the victim's prop- erty. The victim was able to make his way home and was taken to hospitaln by his moth- er where he required six stitch- es to close acut on his head. Suspect No. 1 was male, white, 5'8", 160-180 lbs., wear- ing a blue, yellow and red ski jacket and carried the crowbar. Suspects No. 2 and No. 3 both wore hooded jackets, one jacket being black in color. Stolen during the robbery was a yellow Sony Walkman, Reebok running shoes, and a brown men's billfold wallet con- taining personal papers. A re-enactment of this violent crime will be shown on CITY TV, Channel 57, Cable 7, on Thursday, Oct. 8 during the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news. It will also be shown on CHEX TV in Peterborough and CKVR in Barrie on Friday, Oct. 9, again during the news. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of these three mug- gers. Almost $140,000 for rural child care The Honorable Benoit Bou- chard, Minister of National Health and Welfare, recently announced funding of $139,287 over 24 months to the Durham West Farm Child Care Pro- gram. " The Child Care Initiatives Fund (CCIF) is providing fund- ing to address the complex child care needs of families living in rural communities and to evali- ate innovative models of afford- able and flexible child care ser- vices that could easily be adapted in other Ontario com- munities. 'This project will result in a new rural Child Care Registry, further developments to the Ux- bridge Family Resource Centre, an informal caregiver Visitor Support Service and assistance to the On-Farm Child Care Ser- vice. The CCIF was established in 1988 to promote research and development to enhance the quality of child care in Canada.
