2 - PORT PERRY STAR - INTRODUCING THE MOJACKS SPECIAL - Tuesday, October 6, 1992 STEVE LAIRD #15 Left Wing Steve Laird is another new addition to the Modacks this season. Laird, a Port Perry native is wearing sweater number 15. He is a left-handed shooter. Eighteen-year-old Laird is 6' and weighs 175 pounds. He played minor hockey in both the Port Perry and Newmarket organizations. Last season Laird played for the Oshawa Legionaires of the Junior B league. Laird, a left winger contributed 45 points on the Legionaire squad last year. He scored 20 goals and added 25 assists. Laird said he was attracted to the MoJack organization because 'it is a chance to play a good quality of hockey in front of my hometown fans." Laird says the ModJacks will have no problem this year. This year the club has, what is probably a club record, of 10 Scugog Township players on the roster. Five veterans are back this year including overage players. Jim Vernon and Ian Cooper. Other veterans returning to the fold are Brett Puckrin, Jeff Barr and Jarett Harman. The centremen on this year's squad include: Jarett Harman, Jason Cochrane and Shannon Todd. On the blueline will be Brett Puckrin, Brad Mizener, Todd Dennis, Todd Byers, Steve Sta- niland, 'Nathan Brown and Tyl- er Teel. Left and right wingers in- clude Steve Laird, Jeff Barr, Brad MacArthur, Greg David- son, Jody Logan, Jim Vernon, Jan Heyes and Brent Gaylor. Between the pipes for the Mo- Jacks are Ian Cooper and Tim wild. Behind the bench is coach Brad Ryder and assistant coaches Brad Menzies and Len Giacalone. #10 Centreman Jason Cochrane, a Port Perry native is a first-year MoJack. The 6', 160-pound centreman shoots left- handed and wears sweater number 10. Eighteen-year-old Cochrane played minor hockey in Port Perry. Cochrane was a member of last season's Port Perry Midget "A" Eagles which claimed the All-Ontario championship crown. Cochrane picked up 75 points last season in the Midget division. He scored 30 goals and added 45 assists. He said he was #23 Defenseman Todd Byers of Oshawa is a new addition to the Port Perry MoJacks this season. Seventeen-year-old Byers is 510" and weighs 180 pounds. He is a left-handed shooter and wears jersey number 23. He played minor hockey in Oshawa and played last season for the Oshawa Kiwanis Midget squad. Byers previously played for the Ajax Axeman of the Junior C level. Byers scored seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points last season. He racked up 266 minutes in penalties.
