In 1972, a group of residents held a meeting to see if there was enough community interest to develop a Junior C level hock- ey club. Response was great and the club began playing in the winter of 1972. In its first year the club was pitted against teams from Co- bourg, Port Hope, Lindsay, Bowmanville, Sutton, Mark- ham, Oak Ridges and Penetang. The original executive includ- Ken Jackson ed Jack Kane, first president, Wayne Venning, first vice- president, Charlie Bourgeois, second vice-president, Elmer Lee, treasurer, Don Cochrane, director, Grant Campbell, man- ager, Carl Luke, assistant man- ager and Ivan Luke, coach. When the Junior C club first started out it was known as the Flamingos for the first eight seasons. Ken Jackson, owner of Fla- mingo Pastries, and Mother #2 Defenseman Steve Staniland, another Scugog Township native, is a first-year MoJack. The 6'3" defenseman weighs in at 170 pounds. He wears sweater number 2 and is a left- handed shot. The 19-year-old Blackstock resident played last season for the Port Perry Juvenile All Ontario finalists team. He also played for Cartwright High School last year. The reputation of the ModJacks was a major drawing factor for Staniland. Originally from Wallaceburg, He now resides in Port Perry. The 5'11", 180-pound right winger is wearing sweater number 12. He is a right-handed shooter. MacArthur played minor hockey in Wallaceburg. out of the minor ranks of Port Perry. When Flamingo Pastries was sold to Vachon, it did not contin- ue the Jackson's sponsorship of the club. , In 1978 the club changed names, but the family sponsor remained the same. New in town, MacArthur said the MoJacks sounded like a good club, "and it is a great way to meet people," he said. At the Midget level last season MacArthur tallied 40 points. He scored 20 goals and added 20 assists. Although optimistic about the team's chances MacArthur said he is waiting to see what happens. Eighteen-year-old Logan is 5 10" and weighs 180 pounds. He is wearing sweater number 16, and is a left-handed shot. Logan played minor hockey in the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association ranks. He is a member of last year's Port Perry Midget "A" Eagles All- Ontario Championship team. Logan was an asset to the Midget team scoring 38 goals and adding 43 assists for a total of 81 points. He said he was attracted to the ModJack organization because of "teammates, fans and the girls that come out to watch." He feels the MoJacks have a good chance this year. "We have the ability to do very well, but along with the ability | think this team has a lot of heart. That is the key for success in a long season," Logan said. He is a native of Nestleton, where he still lives. Seventeen-year-old Brown is 6'1" and weighs 167 pounds. A right-handed shooter, Brown wears jersey number 5. Brown played minor hockey in both the Port Perry and Stouftville organizations. He was a member of last season's Port Perry Midget "A" Eagles squad which claimed the All-Ontario Championship crown. Brown notched 35 points last season as a Midget. He scored eight goals and picked up 27 assists. He said he wanted to play for the Port Perry MoJacks because he has always been a fan of the team.
