ET ee rr Arp "A Family Tradition for 126 Years" Decision on names expected next week (From page 1) nity, as did others, to debate the proposed changes, it has decid- ed to hold another public meet- ing on October 19. But residents opposing the name change have already had one crack at opposing the change. One such person was June Sabiston, a resident of Caesar Lane. Mrs. Sabiston requested the name be changed to Washago Bay Lane to honor a native set- tler. She also pointed out that Caesar Lane is often connected with Caesarea, but this is con- fusing as the lane is approxi- mately 10 kilometres east of Caesarea. She fears it could prove costly in the event of an emergency. Barb Hiscox, also an area res- ident, argued the street names in the township commonly re- ferred to pertinent family names. Although the public meeting was held, Earl Cuddie, town- ship clerk, says there is a need for an additional meeting due to the confusion. He says Mr. Ed- wards holds relevant informa- tion that may help council make a decision. Other street name changes are seeing less opposition, how- ever. Heather McCrae, a property owner on Emerson Beach Lane, appeared before council to re- quest the name change. Mrs. McCrae argued that with "beach" in the name, it gave theimpressionit was a pri- vate beach lane and therefore sent out the message to thieves that it was an easy target for break-ins, due to its seasonal use. Mrs. McCrae asked council for the name change in order to take the emphasis offthe beach. Goreski Sideroad was also be- ing considered for change. Council is proposing to change it to Bryant Sideroad'to elimi- nate confusion concerning the Goreski Marina. Although the Goreski family did not object to the name change, they did request some concessions. They requested the old signs as a momento and also asked their name be considered for fu- ture street names on Scugog Is- land to recognize the family's 30 years of community activity in the area. Council will make a decision on all the names following the meeting next Monday. von Peedi £4 Port Perry High School held a food drive last week and delivered the food to the Opera- tion Scugog Thanksgiving Food Bank at the fire hall on Friday afternoon.
