The Pee Wees opened their season with a 5-3 victory over Peterborough. Donny Young had a hat trick for Port and Brian Hendricks added two goals. Jay Neill qualified for the provincial tennis championships of the Ontario College Athlet- ic Association. 10 YEARS AGO WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1982 The Port Perry MolJacks scored 30 goals in two games over the weekend. In the first match the MoJacks defeated Stouffville 17-4 then defeated Cobourg 13-7. Barbara Underhill was the guest speaker al the Port Perry Figure Skating Club's general meeting. In broomball action Emmerson Insurance defeated Brian's Towing 3-1. Scoring for Em- merson's was John Gerber and Phil Robinson. Brian's lone goal was scored by Lawrence Peelers. Malmont Farms Atoms opened their season by defeating Whitby in a close 4-3 game. Scoring for Port Perry were Clair Cornish, Mike Feasby, Eric Grosvenor and Chris Le- gere. Assists were awarded to Legere, Danny Maw. Mark Andrews, Danny Sluggett and Commish. Pearce Auctioneers tie season opener The 92-93 season started this weekend with the Pearce Au- tion Novice team playing their first league game in Cobourg. After a shakey pre-season, the team surprised their fans with a strong showing. Port Perry began the scoring in the first period with a goal by Mike LeFort, assisted by Adam Moynes. Cobourg came back in the second to tie the game, but Port went ahead with an unas- sisted effort by Adam Moynes. Our boys had many great chances and were backed up with the super defense of Scott Duncan and Dane Gray. Co- bourg managed to slip another goal in to once again tie the game. Our goalies Darcy Ste- phens and Thomas Lee hung in to prevent any more scoring and the final was a 2-2 tie. On Saturday the boys trav- elled to Lindsay to meet a very strong novice team. Dean Van Camp began the scoring ripping an unassisted shot past the Lindsay goalie, which turned out to be the only goal for Port as Lindsay went on to win 7-1. It's early in the season and we know with hard work and the excellent coaching of Bob Spen- cley, Murray Empringham and Ken Parry, our Pearce Auction Novice team will represent Port Perry well. Bunny ringette The Port Perry Ringette As- sociation has formally started a Bunny Program for girls ages five, six and seven. Ringette is played using a rubber ring, a hockey stick without a blade and is played with tube skates on an indoorice rink. The Bunny Program is in- tended to teach girls how to skate and the rules of the game of ringette. There are 10 other Bunny teams in Durham Region and vicinity (Manvers, Oshawa, Whitby). No league games have been formally arranged but in the past, these associations have participated with each other to enhance player devel- opment through exhibition games. The Port Perry Ringette As- sociation despite its relative small size compared to other as- sociations has had great success winning league or regional championships in all but one di- vision last season. This success is due to the com- mitment by the Port Perry Rin- gette Association in the techni- cal certification of its coaches. All coaches are required to com- plete technical - and theory coaches offered by Ringette Canada and the Canadian Asso- ciation of Coaches. All the coaches in the Bunny Program have completed these courses prior to the initiation of this program. In addition, Mr. Gord Imrie, who is the on-ice co- ordinator is a certified skating instructor and brings a strong teaching background to the pro- gram. There are currently 12 open- ings available in this program. The registration fee is $80. Girls are invited to come out and try this sport (at no cost) at the Blackstock Arena any Sat- urday in October between 2-3 p.m. You must bring a helmet, hockey, ringette or ski gloves and skates (black skates are re- quired but figure skates are ac- ceptable in October). An equip- ment exchange is being organized for November to fully outfit each girl registered in the program.
