Create-A-Book fundraiser for Scugog Memorial Public Library Alocal business hopes to raise $400 for the Scugog Memorial Public Library. Create-A-Book of Durham, a locally-owned business, will be at the library on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. mak- ing personalized books for chil- dren and adults. The bound, hardcover, laser printed books contain color pic- tures and a story that places the recipient of the book in the lead: Ing role. The books make unique gifts for Christmas, birthdays, wed- dings, and anniversaries. Betty Penny, a director of the business, says the books are great gifts for children. Since they play the leading role, 1t en- courages them to read. The books are considered a keepsake and will be treasured for many years, she adds. It takes about 10 minutes to make one book. Anyone who is unable to go to the library on October 24 can fill out an order form beforehand. They are available in the li- brary's reception area. Scouts have been busy thus far and it appears theyll be keeping up the pace for the re- mainder of the year. Leaders Howard Wolf and Alex Mills have been joined by Dave Col- lins and Lewis Parker to make up a leadership team with much experience. Along with their participation on Apple Day, the Scouts will be joining in on a Scout Radio Jamboree 'where they'll be able to speak to other Scouts all over the world. In September they travelled to Camp Macro for a day hike and will be returning there for an overnight camp soon. Another November day hike and a win- ter camp are in the works for so please be generous when they knock on your door Satur- day morning with a fresh red apple in their hand. All of our groups have gotten off to a busy start... Beavers have done some really neat crafts and their first outing of the year was to Windy Ridge Orchards. Thanks to Carol and Larry Fagel for hosting our group once again. Stu Holme was invested in September as our third Beaver Leader, thanks to Stu for offering his time. I know he'll find it a re- warding experience Cub investment took place Sept. 28 with the section wel- coming two new boys who trans- ferred from other areas, Kevin Jones and Robert Guthrie. Nine new Chums were brought into the pack and they are Adam Al- len, James Currie, Ben Kowalc- zyk, Tyler Lee, Ryan Mills, Kris Pettvpiece, Kaine Van Asten, the boys in the troop. The Group Committee held a successful bake sale this past weekend and we would like to thank those parents who con- tributed to it.
