"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 20, 1992 - 25 Sr' - " There's divided loyalties at Hank's Pastries these days as the baseball season has entered the World Series. It appears Pierre Leduc, (centre) is supporting the Atlanta Braves, while the rest of the staff Is supporting the Toronto Blue Jays. Pictured showing their support for the Jays are Debbie Bailey, Sue Savage, bie Crawford, who holds four World Series tickets, Roberts. By Shawn Bastarache In the past, meetings be- tween Port Perry and Uxbridge hockey teams have been spirit- ed affairs to say the least. The rivalry continued Sunday night at Scugog Arena where the Mo- Jacks and Bruins battled to a 7- 7 tie. In a five minute overtime pe- riod that saw Uxbridge out- shoot the MoJacks 6-3, rookie netminder Tim Wild came up big to preserve a single point for Port Perry. "We all worked well together as a team,' said Wild after the game. "It was a team effort." The 6'1", 160 pound Oshawa na- tive got the start Sunday night after facing 17 shots in the final two frames of an 8-4 loss in Lakefield two nights before. "] was pretty nervous before the game," he admitted. Tim Wild came up big in goal Wild's teammates took some of the pressure off his young shoulders as they came out fly- ing in the first period. Steve Laird scored twice in a Pierre Leduc and Debbie Storms, with the bat. (Back) Deb- Mary Sanders, Eleanor Zenglein and Lori Laird picks up hat trick span of only 1:17 seconds to give the ModJacks the early lead. The tide turned quickly, how- ever, as the Uxbridge special teams went to work. A shorthanded goal by J.F. Amyot cut the Port Perry lead, before consecutive power-play markers by Curtis Hodgins and Steve Dick gave the Bruins an edge after the first 20 minutes. Uxbridge went ahead by a pair early in the second period when Aaron Morrison deflected a shot past Tim Wild. The. Modacks fought back gamely and Jason Cochrane's power-play goal at 7:12 was the first of three unanswered goals for Port Perry. The Bruins were not to be outdone, scoring two late goals to take a 6-5 lead into the sec- ond intermission. Port Perry began the third pe- riod with the man advantage af- ter a roughing minor to Bruins' Jay Hause had carried over from the second. Some strong work by Jim Vernon provided a loose puck for Shannon Todd who made no mistake and tied the score at 81X. Though there were fewer goals scored in the third period, it did provide great action at both ends with both clubs try- ing desperately to get the go ahead goal. Laird put the MoJacks on top, completing his hat trick, with 12 minutes to play in the game. What looked like the tying goal for the Bruins was disal- lowed when it was ruled, direct- ed in by a skate. Shortly after, however, Hod- gins scored a legitimate goal when he raced in off the right wing and beat Wild high to the glove side. Steve Laird four-point night The goal gave Hodgins a pair, equalling the output of team- mates Dick and Morrison. Am- yot had the other Bruin mark- er. Laird led all MoJack scorers with four points and had a chance to win the game in over- time on a breakaway. Laird's shot was stopped by the blocker of Bruins netmind- er Reid. 'I wanted to get the shot away as quickly as [ could," Laird said. "I saw an opening on the stick side so I went for it." Despite managing but a point for their efforts, the Mo- Jacks put in a solid perfor- mance - one they should be able to build on. "We're coming together now," Pee Wees defeat Stouffville 7-2 in one-sided affair On Friday, Oct. 16, the Pee Wee "Legionaires" - hosted Stouffville, but were none too kind to their guests as they beat Stouffville 7-2. Daryl McEnaney had a spec- tacular showing on his return to play after his mouth injury in Cobourg last week by scoring four goals and assisting with another. In what seemed tobe a very long game from a specta- tors perspective, this win puts Port Perry at three for three. Just 16 seconds into the first period Daryl McEnaney scored his first goal assisted by Adam Jones. Daryl also scored the second, unassisted and then Danny Lyons notched one with the help of Seth Gray and Mike Morden to give Port a 3-0 lead. The second period saw Port shoot ahead on two more goals scored by Daryl McEnaney, the first assisted by Adam Jones and Rob Murphy, the second by Scott Heffern. The third period opened with Daryl McEnaney feeding Adam Jones the puck and Adam, mak- ing no mistake, put Port ahead 6-0. That line of Scott Heffern, Adam Jones and Daryl McEna- ney are playing exceptional hockey. Stouffville then scored their first goal to get on the clock but 12 seconds later Seth Gray got ModJacks fight to 7-7 draw said Laird. "We've got a lot more confidence. A lot of the guys have played minor hockey together for years, so they know how to play together." General manager Murray Parliament also saw signs of improvement Sunday night. "They're starting to show signs of playing with some in- tensity," Parliament said. He hopes that intensity and work ethic will continue to im- prove as the MoJacks get ready for some tough games in the weeks ahead. Mod acks Facts: Laird's four points Sunday night make him the MoJacks' leading scorer af- ter five games with a total of seven points... Next home action is Sunday, Oct. 25 when the MoJacks host the Little Britain Merchants at 7:30 p.m. it back with the help of Danny Lyons. Nice performance by Seth seeing as he flew all his relatives in from Calgary just for this game! Stouffville scored one more goal for the night. Notable men- tion for Port's goaltenders, Kent Johnston and Luke Cara- ghan who are doing a superb job keeping the puck out of the net and helping the rest of the players look good. Excellent team effort! There was certainly a good turnout of support for this team as was evident by the stands. If you want to catch the next per- formance of Teno, Geer and Company, they play Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Peterborough and Friday, Oct. 23 in Port Perry hosting Oshawa at 9:15. Be there! Midgets come up short Canadian Tire Midgets B team opened their season on Tuesday, Oct. 13 against Hali- burton in the northern town. This game was fast paced and Haliburton seemed to think every stoppage of play should be fight time. Port played a good game de- spite the rough play of the northern boys but came home on the short end of a 7-5 score. Canadian Tire received two goals from Andrew Pereman, one each from Jason Kane and Ryan Ridgeway, Chad Garvock a goal and an assist, Steve Stiles 2 assists. Wednesday, Oct. 14, Canadi- an Tire hosted Omemee and de- spite the long journey the night before the boys skated and passed very well but found themselves down 2-0 by the end of the first period. The coaching staff spoke to the boys between periods and whatever was said should be re- membered! Port scored seven in a row before Omemee got back on the scoreboard. Mark Cosway 3 goals 1 assist, Chad Garvock and Lyndsay Parry a goal and an assist each, Derek Buller and Greg Thompson a goal each, assists to Mike Slug- gett, John Hall and Scott Wylie and Steve Stiles.
