The meetings are being held by the Durham Region Farm Family Enhancement Program -- a six-month program being sponsored by the Durham West On Farm Child Care Program and funded by the Ontario Min- istry of Agriculture and Food. "The meetings are being held throughout the region to get a feel for what farm families are looking for in terms of support," said program co-ordinator Sally Barnie. The aim of the program is to help farm families become bet- ter equipped to address the changes, challenges and pres- sures of farming by providing support services and special ac- tivities. Concerns expressed at the meetings will determine what services and activities may be implemented. he Greenbank Women's In- stitute hosted one of the infor- mal meetings at the Greenbank Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 21. A video entitled "The Farm, The Family" was shown. It dealt with the stresses felt by farming families and what can be done to alleviate the problem. The main concerns expressed were safety on the faim, weath- er conditions, ever-changing government policies and regula- tions, and finances. Other concerns included hav- ing too much to do in too little time, the pressures of operating a farm with relatives, useof haz- ardous chemicals, and the in- fringement of development on farmlands. Anyone interested in adding their input is urged to attend one of the four remaining infor- mation meetings. The Bethesda-Reach W. 1. will host the next meeting at the Uxbridge Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
