"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" -- --. Guardian Drugs Tweens drop tough 4-3 decision The Ringette Tween A team, sponsored by Guardian Drugs, is made up of 11 local girls who are 11 - 12 years of age. Most of them have been on skates for most of their young lives, and have developed skills with a ring and a stick that we adults can only dream of. This team is led by an experienced coaching staff which has taken several of their former teams to both league and area champion- ships: Walter Senyk, Brian Shanley, and Dianne Hooker. The team members of the Tween A team are: Natasha Burgess, Janine Hammond, Dana Hooker, Laura Hooker, Shona Moase, Bonnie-Jo Nor- ton, Jana Senyk, Katie Senyk, Brooke Shanley, Heather Treadway, and Cara Vander Slagt. On Sunday, the team played an exciting match against a squad from Brooklin/Whitby. The action was non-stop from end to end with many great passing plays and defensive moves in place. The players who have just moved up from Petite, along with the few second year girls, find that the action at the Tween level is a bit faster and more physical as the girls get older and larger. However, the Port team was up for it, played well, but came out on the losing end of a 4-3 game. Shona Moase netted two goals for Port with both being assisted by Bonnie-Jo Norton, while Cara Vander Slagt was able to put one past the goalie with help from Dana Hooker. The team will be playing in the Don Beere Arena on Wednesday evening, will have a dry land practice in the S.A. Cawker gym on Friday night, and an early Sunday morning practice at 6:30 in Scugog Are- na. These girls are dedicated re- ingette players, so look for a lot of excitement from them in the coming season. Woodys loses first game of the season ,The broomball season is well underway now as we have com- pleted the first round of play and this Sunday saw the start of round two. B & R Swampers continued on their winning ways as they downed the Framer's Gallery by a score of 3-1. The Swampers built up a 2-0 lead through the first period with goals by Dan Taylor and Brian Pomeroy. Mike Mitchell and Mike Geer picked up the assists on Tay- lor's with Pomeroy's going un- aided. The Framer's got one back midway through the sec- ond when Kevin Smith fired one in from a setup by Paul Brough. With the Framer's pressing the Swampers got the clincher with 1:01 to go with Taylor assisting Mitchell. Monsma Electric showed up with a few new faces this week and totally destroyed Emmer- son's Insurance 10-2. Brothers Ron and Nick Atwood carried the ball for Monsmas as they combined for a total of 14 points between them. Ron accounted for five goals and three assists while Nick tallied one goal and aided on an additional six. Line- mate Ken Lynde was not totally forgotten as he netted two and assisted on two more. The re- maining goals went to Perry Mason, with further assists go- ing to Murray Down with two, and singles going to Chris Le- pine, goaltender Jim Mason, Rick Mitchell, and Jason Lee. Emmerson got their markers from James Hudgins and Les Allen. Mike Jones, Danny Brown, Joe Parkinson, and Mike Roy all picked up assists. The final outcome of game three was an identical score of the first game as Blackstock Brewers stopped the previous undefeated Woody's 3-1. Ron Redman set up Tom Wotten early in the second frame to get Blackstock on the board first. This was shortlived however as Woody's retaliated with a two- man advantage two minutes later when Larry Maarse net- ted one from Neil Woodrow and Gene Woodrow. Again Black- stock pulled ahead when Ron Short flipped one in from Wot- ten with 6:44 left to play in reg- ulation time. In the dying sec- onds Kevin Grieve fired one into the vacated net for the clincher.
