The local officers are support- ing Metro police's position "in principal," said Terry Ryan of the Durham Region Police Asso- ciation. Metro Police have been pro- testing against the NDP govern- ment and its provincial policy. The Toronto-area police have been protesting on a work-to- rule basis for the better part of the month of October. Metro police are refusing to wear their badges and don the traditional hat. They are cur- rently sporting baseball-style hats. The protest is aimed at the new NDP policy which states police must file a written report each time they draw their guns.
