Ab- was defeated in the A final by a team from Techstar Bantam Bs defeat Uxbridge in 10-2 contest On Wednesday, Nov. 4 the Bantam B "Techstar Plastics" met up with Uxbridge and it was no contest as the boys came up with a 10-2 win. Dylan Ferguson was in net for this game, but didn"t have a lot of work as Port out shot Ux- bridge 32-10. Scoring for Port Perry was Kevin Gray with a hat trick, Matt Hobbs (two), sin- gles for Greg Thompson, Trevor Smith, Matt Phillips, Brad Mor- ton and Kent Taylor. Assists to Daryl Moase (three), Jeff Ja- mieson (two), Greg Thompson (two), Devon Blair (two), and Gord Bentley (one). On the weekend the team travelled to Omemee to partici- pate in their first tournament and came home with the "D" championship. The team played excellent hockey in the first game and ended up losing in overtime. They were up against Millbrook and both teams played hard, fast hockey. Kevin Gray chaulked up our first goal with assists to Daryl Moase and Gord Bentley. Millbrook came back with two quick goals but before the end of the first period Jon Ja- mieson had tied up the scoring with assists to Matt Hobbs and Gord Bentley. Jon Jamieson scored our final goal with only 36 seconds left in the game. As- sists went to Trevor Smith and Todd Parry. The team went into a five minute sudden death, and with only 40 seconds left in overtime, Millbrook was able to slip one past goaltender Jamie Trick. This was an excellent ef- fort by all players but unfortu- nately two of our players took major penalties and that put them out of the tournament. In the second game we were matched up with Northminster and again we had a hard fight to the finish. Brad Morton got our first goal on a lone effort. But Northminster went ahead by one before Greg Thompson tied the game with his excellent ef- fort in front of their net. Gord Bentley made the initial shot and picked up an assist for his work. Jon Jamieson scored the final goal with a high, quick shot with assists to Todd Parry and Greg Thompson. Unfortu- nately Northminster scored late in the game to win it 4-3. Dylan Ferguson played be- tween the pipes and made a number of excellent saves throughout the game. The Techstars went into their final game against St. Alphon- sus and our boys looked too tired to even skate but their val- 1ant effort again took them to overtime play. Matt Philips had a great game and SL I for the "Stars." Daryl Moase, Brad Morton and Greg Thomp- son scored our other goals. As- sists went to Jon Jamieson (three), Matt Philips, Brad Mor- ton, Kevin Gray and Todd Par- ry. The winning overtime goal was Greg Thompson's. Jamie Trick played a great game in net. The boys were tired but happy! Pearce Auctioneers compete in first Last Friday night Pearce Auctioneers Novice team were hosts to a strong Whitby team. Trevor Weisflock opened the scoring with a bullet shot unas- sisted. Along with Trevor, Mi- chael Milligan and Jeff Tarbot- ton played a strong first period. Whitby came back strong with two goals to end the first period. Both our goalies Darcy Stephens and Thomas Lee played a strong game. Dean Van Camp opened the third pe- riod with another goal for us with a smooth passing from Trevor Lance and Matt Sker- ratt. Whitby ended the game with two more goals for a final score of 7-2. The team was up early Satur- day morning for the first tour- nament in Huntsville. There were a total of 12 teams attend- ing. Our boys played Halibur- ton in the first game. Opening the scoring was Adam Moynes who surprised the opposing goalie. Assisting on the goal were Michael Wiseman and Jeff Tarbotton. Our defense Dane Gray and Tim Jones played a good defensive game. Haliburton pressed hard the Malmont tournament of year rest of the game with one goal in the second period and three in the third to end the game 4-1. The next game was against Huntsville. This was a very tight game with a scoreless first period. Huntsville's goalie didn't have a chance with a blis- tering shot from Dean Van Camp to open the scoring with an unassisted goal. Seconds lat- er Huntsville got on the board to tie it up one all. Great de- fense was played by Gerrard Timmers and Scott Duncan. With just two minutes left in the game Michael LeFort drilled one by Huntsville's goal- ie. Assisting was Dean Van Camp in what turned out to be the winning goal with a 2-1 vic- tory for Port Perry. A real ac- tion packed game. The next game saw Port Perry up against a smooth skat- ing Collingwood team. With a win Port Perry would have stayed for the consolation game but Collingwood was headed for the "A" championship and out- played our team with a 6-0 win. Everyone enjoyed a weekend away. Our next game hosts Port Hope Friday night. Atoms pick up two wins in weekend action The Malmont Farms Atom A team had an excellent weekend of hockey with two wins to show for it. Friday night we hosted a big, aggressive Oshawa squad. Port Perry showed their offensive skills in this game winning 6-1. Chad Lance started the scoring in the first period with assists going to Greg Bruton and Aaron Chambers. This line caught on fire in the second period with Brad Johnston scoring on a pass from Greg Bruton. Eleven seconds later Greg set up Chad for his second goal of the game, with Brad also assisting. Later in the second, Brett Cloutier found the net with an assist to Ryan McQuade. Mark Blakely came out strong in the third period scor- ing with Ryan assisting again. The final Port Perry goal came from Chris Jones with Braden Tarbotton assisting. Mike Ma- clennan had another excellent showing, allowing only one Oshawa goal. There were many penalties to the tough Oshawa team and Port Perry took full advantage of the situation. On Sunday evening we trav- elled to Port Hope for our sec- ond encounter against this team. Another fine effort from our boys resulted in a 1-0 victo- ry. Good forechecking and strong defense with some dandy saves from Mike Maclennan were the keys in this game. Lots of good chances for the forwards were created but the Port Hope goalie only made one mistake with Greg Bruton scoring the only goal in the second period. Brad Johnston and Jeff Ashton got the assists. Next game is Friday at home vs. Lindsay. ModJdacks hand Bowmanville Its first loss of the season By Shawn Bastarache Despite losing 4-1 to the Lit- tle Britain Merchants Sunday night, the Port Perry MoJacks have to feel good about their play as of late. Prior to Sunday, Brad Ryd- er's MoJacks had won four straight, including two wins over the top two clubs in the league. Arguably, the biggest win came Thursday when the Mo- Jacks hosted the Bowmanville Eagles, beginning a stint that would have them play three games in four nights. In one of the best all around efforta of the 1992-93 season the MoJacks took the play to the Eagles and downed the previ- ously undefeated Bowmanville club 6-2. 'I said at practice, the way to beat Bowmanville is to make them turn the puck over and I think that's exactly what we did," said Ryder after the win Thursday night. "We created turnovers and when you get turnovers you're going to get scoring opportunities." Behind 2-1 after the first peri- od, the MoJacks tied the score with one :55 seconds remaining in the second period. The third period, however, was owned by Port Perry. The MoJdacks scored four times in the final frame to hand the Eagles their first loss after 10 straight wins. Once again, Port Perry 's as- sistant captain Jim Vernon was the big gun scoring a hat trick. The 6'1", 195 -pound forward has scored eight goals in the month of November, dating back to a 17-2 drubbing of the Bobcaygeon Bullets when Ver- non scored four times. "We've been wanting Vernon to fire the puck more," said Ryd- er. "A lot of times he has an op- Turn to Page 26
