Nursing Home Petites Pineridge Tweens win 9-4 dominate in 13-5 win The Community Nursing Home Petites travelled to Oshawa to test their skills after a practice in the gym and on the ice. The extra practice paid large dividends as the passing, ring handling, shooting and checking were vastly improved. A solid 13-56 win was proof our new mascot, a Wrinkles dog, is good luck. Scoring for Port were Jenni- fer Hammond, Julia Leaman and Jennifer Donnelly each with a hat trick. Leanne Holt picked up a pair, with singles going to Jennifer Imrie and Lisa Lafort. On all these goals only four assists were given. Two of these went to Leanne Holt, one to Jen- nifer Hammond and the other to Jennifer Imrie. A total team effort that saw the ring move up ice quickly with three players touching the ring on numerous occasions. Every player could easily have been on the score sheet. Playing strong two-way ringette for the Community Nursing Home were Lauren Christie, Leanne Davison, Melissa Hooker, Ca- thy Cooper and Miranda Bur- gess. Lauren, a steady defence player, got a chance to show her skill at forward. Leanne Davi- son had a couple scoring chanc- es after some good checking but is still looking for the first Pe- tite goal. Melissa Hooker, al- ways willing to play where asked, had four shots at the cor- ners with no luck. Cathy Cooper always on the ring in her defensive role in this game, came away with almost all when there was a fight for the ring. Miranda patiently but efficiently held up her share of the defensive duties. Behind everyone was Alicia Burgess who made several good saves when called upon. Keep up the effort girls, your hard work and smart play is de- veloping into a great team game. "** On Saturday we were hosts to Oshawa, for our third league game of the season. Coming off a solid team effort to beat Scar- borough last week we wanted to continue our winning streak. The team was led by Cindy Verschuuren scoring five goals enabling us to defeat Oshawa by a score of 9-4. Cindy's skating and shooting gkills were too much for Oshawa to handle. Jennifer Elliot, Pam Hiltz and Alechia Cracknell also found the net. Amanda Wakeford and Jill Topham were credited with as- sists on the goals. Diane Vanderligt continues to keep us in the game with her timely saves. Amanda Wakeford and her sister Lee-Anne were superb on defence as well as Jen Pashley, and Alechia Cracknell. Emma Russell, playing in only her second ringette game had numerous shots on goal only to be denied a goal by the Oshawa goalie. The girls would like to wel- come back Genni Taylor from her holiday. She is a welcome addition to our team. Our next game is Sunday, Nov. 15 at Ajax where we will try tomakeit threein a row. Good luck girls! Country Style Donuts Bantams The Country Style Donut Bantam No. 1 team met Peter- borough on home ice Nov. 2, 1992. This was the second match with this team so Port knew what to expect. The first period started off well. Port looked strong, skating with the competition and getting some good shots on the net but Peter- borough's goalie is "BIG"! Peter- borough finally scored late in the first period to make the score 1-0. As the clock ticked away, Port had lots of shots but no luck around (or in) the net. Penalties were a problem for both teams and everyone was pleased to hear that last buzzer sound. Final score was Peterborough 3, Port 0. This was definitely an improvement from our first meeting. Next time will be Port's turn to be on top. Brian Bickmore again played a strong game, saving the Donut boys a few times. Keep up the good work Brian. On Sunday, Nov. 8, the Ban- tam No. 1 team travelled to Lindsay for a 3:16 p.m. start. This was a close match all the way with both goalies playing extremely well stopping numer- ous shots from all angles. The first period remained scoreless though not from lack of trying on the part of both teams. Finally late in the sec- ond period, Craig Laird took his time in front of the net, lined up the shot and tossed the puck up on the corner much to the dis- may of the Lindsay goalie. The assists on this one went to Chris Drury and Tom Chambers. Not to be outdone, Lindsay tied it up only a few minutes later with a hard shot to the corner. This seemed fitting for two teams so evenly matched. The players worked hard in the third period but try as they might, not another goal co they beg, borrow, steal or buy! Fortunately for wus, neither could Lindsay as Brian Bick- more stood firm in our net and handled every attempt with lose 3-0 decision to Peterborough ease. Final score, one for Port and one for Lindsay. The Ban- tams will be anxious to meet this team again to try for the --AV1N. The next game for the Coun- try Style Donut Bantams is Monday Nov. 9 at 7:30 in Port. Fans are always appreciated. Come out and support the team. Lets go Port! Legion Pee Wees Ba a ame de ch sb add split pair of games The Legion Pee Wees were able to split a pair over the weekend, dropping a close one Friday 2-1 to Port Hope and winning a close one Sunday in Stouffville 5-4. Friday's game was not one of our better ones, but thanks to excellent goaltending by Luke Carnaghan and Kent John- ston, and poor eyesight on the part of Port Hope shooters, we managed to keep it close. Our only goal was from Scott Jeffrey with an assist by Jay Strickert, just 1:21 into the game. A tough practise by management on Saturday brought about a little different team on Sunday. Stouffville counted first but halfway through the first period, Scott Jeffrey and Seth Gray set up Danny Lyons who was cruisingin, and blast- ed it home. Stouffville responded twice more, until Mike Morden dug it out of the corner to Danny Robinson, who tippeditin. Port did the only scoring in the second when Shane Horton took a pass from Scott Jeffrey and a hard wrist-shot put it away. We held on until halfway through the third when Stouffville went ahead again. Rob Murphy then broke away down the left wing, dodged one defenseman and then deked the goalie for the tie. With 1:46 remaining, Scott and Shane worked very hard to keep the puck in Stouffville's end and get it out front where Danny Robinson was standing and tucked it away. Port tried on numerous occasions to get power-play goals but they would not come. A big help was cutting down on pen- alties Sunday compared to Friday. If not for Luke and Kent coming up with big saves, the results could have been differ- ent. - ET ef I are pe weg ER a A
