Sympathy is extended to his wife Mabel, their sons and their families as well as other relatives. On Sunday afternoon Nancy and Bob Bryans along with Deb- bie Bryans and girls, Patti Alpe and family were guests of Steve and Lorinda Bryans to cele- brate Mark's upcoming first birthday at their home in Pon- typool. Congratulations to Ron and Sandra Hoskin who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last week. On Sunday their family and close friends gath- ered at the Recreation Centre for a dinner. Congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happiness. The organizers of the U.N.I.C.E.F. collection wish to thank the community for its generousity. One hundred and twenty young people carried boxes and collected $700 for this cause. Last Monday evening Joan Graham along with Pat Fletch- er, Muriel Hoskin and Sandra Hoskin hosted a Hoskin family shower in honor of Patti Ho- skin, bride-to-be of Bob Swain. After Patti opened her many lovely gifts she thanked all her cousins and aunts for their best wishes. Members of the Blackstock Agricultural Society are re- minded of the regular meeting which will be held this Thurs- day evening, Nov. 12. There were 11 tables at the Tuesday evening euchre party with the following winners: Jim Gibson, Bernice Wells, Harold Swain, Violet Linten, Grant Bright, Betsy Staniland and Vivian Kidd. Lucky draws were won by Grant Bright, Carl Fer- guson, Margaret Finney, Lorna Swain, Gladys Potts, Ruby Smith. Marion and Glenn Larmer visited her brother and sisters in the St. Mary's area on Friday and Saturday. A large crowd attended and enjoyed the annual Carvers' Show and demonstration held at the Recreation Centre on Sunday. What wonderful talent is found at these shows. At the Blackstock United Church a special service was held at the regular time the Sa- creament of Baptism and Act of Confirmation were conducted. The following children were presented - Matthew Curtis son of Evelyn and Doug Morrison, Katherine Elizabeth daughter of Margaret and Peter Davis and Emma Leigh, daughter of Debbie and Bill Percy. The following candidates were received by confirmation, Matt Bradburn, Nicole Gibson, Kevin Gilbank, Heather Gould- ing, David Kemp, Steve Kyte, Ryan Larmer, Todd Moore, Brad Morton, Heidi Obstfeld, Kirk Swain, Scott Swain, Ca- thie Taylor and Josh Wilson. Rev. D. Davis' fine sermon was entitled - "What Does The Lord Require Of You?" A very impressive service. Following church, Evelyn and Doug Morrison and Jeremy hosted his parents Ron and Hel- en Morrison of Killaloe and his sister Susan and Brock Goff of Oshawa in honor of Matthew's baptism. Ernie and Connie Swain of Roaming's End Ranch hosted a family gathering in honor of their granddaughter Emma Percy's baptism. Guests were Debbie and Bill Percy, Katie, Reid and Emma of Whitby, Judi and Brian Mountjoy, Kerri Ann and Kim, Greg, Roseena, Har- old and Margaret Percy of Has- tings, Marla Baker and chil- dren David and Sally of Toronto, Bob Swain, Patti Ho- skin, Valerie Swain and Diane Pearson all of Blackstock. Dale and Anita Davis hosted a family gathering in honor of their granddaughter Kate's baptism. Guests were Peter and Margaret Davis and Kate of Oakville. Jan and Ron Perry, Danielle and Scott of Pickering, Diane and Mike Donnelly, Mat- thew, Mark, Sean and Kelly of Oakville. Russell and Helen Carna- ghan and family hosted a Jack and Jill in honor of Bob Swain and Patti Hoskin who will be married later this month. Friends of the bride and groom to be attended and enjoyed an evening together on Saturday evening. Friends of Kirk Swain are wishing him a speedy recovery from his broken leg which he suffered while playing hockey recently. Many local families gathered at Port Perry High School for the Commencement exercises. Congratulations to the gradu- ates and various prize winners. Do plan to attend and support your local school, its staff and students. Blackstock Women's Institute At 10 a.m. on Nov. 4 a cooking school was held in Blackstock United Church. There were 19 ladies present. Title, "Entertain With A Flair." Edith McLaugh- lin and Pat Sleep were our lead- ers for the cooking class. Groups of ladies were put to different tasks making 10 dishes. Nestle- ton Women's Institute ladies joined our group. Sixteen books were sold. Our thanks to the leaders for a job well done. The class was much enjoyed by all. We all stayed to sample the dishes prepared in the morning cooking class. W.I. Grace was sung before lunch. At 1:30 p.m. the regular meet- ing of the Blackstock Women's Institute was held on Nov. 4. President Eileen McLaughlin opened the meeting in the usual manner with the W.I. Ode sung and the Mary Stewart Collect repeated. Eleven members and one visitor were in attendance. The minutes were read by Pat Sleep in Carol Thornton's ab- sence. We are ordering one Women's Institute History book. Other business was dealt with. Next meeting Dec. 2 will be our Christmas meeting. Meet- ing closed with O'Canada. P.R.O.
