Sunday visitors of Grace and Les Beacock were their son Bryan and his son Philip, Mary Devitt and Leona Wilson of Oshawa. The church congregation sang happy birthday to Myrtle Snelgrove after Sunday's ser- vice. Everyone joined Myrtle downstairs for cake and coffee. Myrtle entertained us with sto- ries about going from church to church leading the worship since she was 12. Everyone en- joyed reminiscing with her. On Nov. 1, Pat and Clayton Love attended the 50th anni- versary of their cousins Gordon and Isabel Spencer of Etobi- coke. Mr. Roy Werry of Blackstock visited Les and Grace Beacock | recently. Happy birthday wishes to Chuck Willes who is 39 again. May he have many more. Elizabeth Bredin attended the commencement exercises at Torchmen excellent Ashburn News by Florence Ashton Last Saturday afternoon, friends and relatives of Allan and Helen Parrot gathered at the community centre to honor them on the occasion of the 25th wedding anniversary. A happy time was enjoyed by all, enjoy- ing lovely refreshments served by the Ladies Kirk Guild. We extend our very best wishes and congratulations to Allan and Helen on this happy occasion. Theo and Joan Knight visited with their daughter and hus- band, Jim and Elaine Ewing of Orangeville recently. Doug and Florence Ashton visited with Cecil and Jean Vic- ars of Fergus last Saturday. Also visiting with Bruce and Jackie Andrews who recently moved to Fergus from Ashburn, They wished to be remembered to all their many friends in this area. Last Wednesday evening, the [Ladies Bible Class met at the home of Sheila Parrott. Presi- dent Florence Ashton chaired the meeting. We opened the meeting by singing "O God Our Help in Ages Past." Psalm 37 vs. 30-34 were read. Meditation was titled "Say Ah" followed with prayer. "O Lord that Wilt Not Let Me go" was sung. The treasurer's report was given. Visiting report by Bernice Gardner. A few items of busi- ness were discussed heading up to Christmas. Sheila Parrott was in charge of the program. She led us in an interesting and informative talk on transplant donors; also showing us a video on organ do- nors, and how they give so many people across the country "a sec- ond chance" to lead a normal life. It is interesting to note that to date, there have been five liv- er transplants who have given birth. Sheila concluded our meeting with prayer. A social time over lunch was enjoyed by all. We all signed a Christmas card for Susiani who is attend- ing senior high school in Indo- nesia, a student whom we are co-sponsoring with the Sunday School. The Torchmen presented an excellent concert as usual on Sunday evening with an over- whelming crowd. It was good to have to put extra chairs in all the aisles. On Wednesday evening the U.C.W. met in the church hall. Ilean Pugh opened with prayer. The Roll Call was answered by 16 members and two guests. The devotional was taken by Catherine Daigle, Lila Clarke and Myrtle Snelgrove. Theme "Lest we Forget." Hymn Eter- nal Father was sung followed hy Scripture 13th chapter of Corin- thians. A number of ladies took part in placing poppies on the wreath with each having a read- ing on each letter of Remem- brance. Closed by singing "A Song of Peace." Treasurer's report was given and other committee reports. The ladies with be catering to the teachers banquet on Nov. 25. Committees for looking af- ter Christmas boxes for shut ins and Operation Scugog were pu. in. The next meeting will be a Christmas Pot Luck Supper on Dec. 9 with all ladies invited. Meeting closed and a lovely lunch was served by Noreen Crosier and Grace Beacock. The weekly euchre was held on Thursday evening. The win- ners: Pat Norton, Heidi Krieg, Alma Manns, Carl Gimblett, Norman Rohrer, Thomas Mann. Lucky draws: Grace Manns, Caroline Haugh and Grant Bright. Andy Isles and the Stingrays will be performing at the Blackstock Recreation Centre on Friday, Nov. 20. Doors open at 8 p.m. The six member, family oriented band plays 50s style music. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Black- stock Country Convenience, Irwin Smith Music, and Country Style Donuts.
