"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" Scala defeats Big V 6-4 On Saturday Nov. 21 Scala and Big V were up against each other in Pee Wee House League action with Scala emerging with a 6-4 victory. The first period opened with lots of end-to-end action but Big V goalie Doug Short and Scala goalie John Chambers were up to the task at hand as both made some excellent saves. Jay Fletcher got things going as he made a fine solo effort to give Scala a 1-0 lead. Big V kept on pressing and finally it paid off as Jamie Sauter tipped in a per- fect pass from Jeremy Gibson. Also assisting on the play was David Bonser. With the score notched at on=> apiece it was Jay Fletcher giv- ing Scala a 2-1 lead with his sec- ond goal on a well executed screen shot with the assist go- ing to Tom Keeble. This goal seemed to really knock the wind out of Big V's sails as a lot of them seemed quite content to stand around on the ice and watch Scala play. And play they did, as the second period was all Scala rolling over Big V for a to- tal of four goals and a 6-1 lead. first it was Paul Brain from Jay Fletcher and Ashley Van Shel- don, then Van Sheldon from Fletcher and Tom Baker, then Travis Pickard from Adam Brain and Ryan Williamson and finally Fletcher for the hat trick from Van Sheldon and Keeble. Big V captain Jeremy Gibson doesn't give up easily as he tried to rally his team by scoring the natural hat trick to bring his team to withing two but ran out of time as the third period wound down with Scala ahead 6-4. Pee Wee house league Rick Larocque 5 Uxbridge 4 On Nov. 22 Rick Larocque travelled to Uxbridge to take on the Bruins. As the game ended up to be a nail biter. Larocque scored with Alex Upton from Ben Stevenson at 9:22. Uxbridge came back with two goals 20 seconds apart with Alex Hunter from Ian Moore for the first, than Darryl McGill- vary unassisted. At 6:29 of the second period Ben Stevenson scored from Ryan Fraser to tie the game 2-2. With Port on the power play Atom house league Whitby Auto Wreckers 4 Laurentianl This was a fast paced and tight-checking game as always when these two teams meet. With great saves from goaltend- er's Ken Lukas of Laurentian and Gary Cleyndert of Whitby keeping this a low scoring game. Pee Wees lose close game The Legion Pee Wees lost a close one on Friday evening, go- ing down 7-4 to Whitby. The first two periods were not a pretty sight, as we went into the dressing room down 6-1. Our lone marker was scored by Scott Heffern from Mike Morden and Scott Jeffrey. The coaching staff must have given "the speech of a life time" as an inspired and changed team hit the ice for the third pe- riod. Scott counted again only sec- onds into the period with help from Jay Strickert and Adam Jones and then Adam passed to Shane Norton who set up Rob Murphy for a goal. Scott Hef- fern then found Rob again who blasted one from the point for our last goal. Whitby was only able to count once in the third. Adam Kingma scored from Jus- tin Sheehey. Uxbridge's Alex Hunter scored unassisted to even the score. Ryan Hawkins gave Port a 4-3 lead with assists by Adam Kingma and Justin Sheehey. With 43 seconds left in the sec- ond period Kevin Cochrane scored from Adam Kingma and Brad Fraser. Mike Kennedy scored with one second left in the second period. The third was scoreless with Cory Brenton of Port and Ux- bridge goalie Michael Waldo making key saves. The first goal came off the stick of Jamie Page from Ryan Fraser and Jon Sanders. The second goal wasn't scored until 5:52 of the second period with Ryan Fraser setting Jon Sand- ers up in front of the net to score a well desired goal. The girls defeated Beaverton and Cartwright in their pool, then Cornish In the semi-finals. In the finals the girls lost the first game but rallied back to win 15-4 and 15- 12.
