Whitby started off the scoring when they got one late in the first period on a power play. Port Perry came on strong in the second period as they al- . ways seem to do. Nick Pelyk scored mid-way through t second when he followed up on . his own rebound and banged e one through the pipes. Brad Johnston and Murphy Irvine got the assists. Port Perry had a lot of the play for the rest of the game but couldn't capitalize on their chances. The game ended up tied at 1-1; a score which would be repeated several times over the next 24 hours as the Atoms headed to a tournament in Port Hope on Saturday. Our first game Saturday morning was against Ernes- town and once more the Atoms got off to a slow start. Good goal tending by Mike Maclennan al- lowed us to be down only one goal at the end of the first peri- od. Things picked up in the sec- ond when our boys dominated and managed to tie it up when Mark Blakely scored from in close. Brett Cloutier and Ryan McQuade picked up the assists. The third period started off good for our side until the refer- ee decided to try to have a say in the final score. With five min- utes to go we got a penalty, but managed to kill it off. Then with a minute and a half left he gave us a chance to play two men short. The boys played tough, the game ended up a 1-1 tie, and we headed to sudden death over-time. The rules for over- time being five minutes over- time with a goalie and one skat- er off after each minute. Once we got by the two men short for the first 30 seconds, the rest of the overtime was good, fast hockey. With the last step being one skater on one, Brad John- ston got the call and he didn't take too long to finish it off. Brad left the Ernestown player at centre ice and went in on their goalie. He made no mis- take deking the goalie and leav- ing him lying on the ice. A great game for the Port Perry specta- tors and conrhes Lee Wilbur and Dex Schmitt didn't seem to mind either. The hustler award for the game was given to Bra- den Tarbotton. Next up was Lindsay who we still hadn't played against this year. This game was a copy of our last two games. The boys Ankle high Mukluks... in stock now Come in and see our large selection of * Sheepskin & leather lined moccasins * Leather wallets * Ladles' & men's sheepskin lined slippers ° Ankle high mukiuks Custom made leather Jackets 53 Toronto St. N. Uxbridge * Sheepskin hats & mitts 852-3818 changed the script a little with Nick Pelyk opening up the scor- ing in the first period, Braden Tarbotton and Greg Bruton get- ting the helpers. Lindsay tied it up in the second and here we go again; it's down to overtime to pick a winner. Lee had his work cut out on this one as well be- cause we picked up another penalty in the last minute of the game. No sweat for the boys though, at least we weren't two men short to start the overtime. Port got good scoring chances through the overtime but once more it came down to one on one, and once more Brad John- ston came back out to take on their best player. This game didn't end in our favor as the Lindsay player managed to jam the puck past Mike Maclennan. Another great game for all of the players with the defence corps of Jeff Ashton, Aaron Chambers, Murphy Irvine and David Justinski playing well. Chad Lance picked up the hus- tler award. Into the 'B' final we went with host team Port Hope being our opposition. Port opened up the scoring with Brad banging one in, Greg and Chad got the assists. Port Hope managed to tie it up halfway through the second. With the game winding down in the third and overtime looming once again, Port Perry turned up the heat a little. With less that four minutes Ryan let go a high, hard one that the Port Hope goalie didn't even move on and that was it for the scoring. Port Perry winning 2-1 with Ryan McQuade getting the game hustler award. A great weekend for the boys, with lots of excitement for the fans as well. Uxbridge comes to Port on Friday night for what should be a good rematch. Pineridge Tweens defeat Pickering The new rule changes in rin- gette this year where all teams may play first three players in the offensive zone benefits teams whom have good skaters. The Pineridge girls are all good skaters as Pickering found out as we defeated them by a score of 14-2, All of our players scored points in this game. Alechia Cracknell led the team with seven points followed by Jen Pashley with six, Pam Hiltz five points, Jennifer Elli- ot, Jill Topham and Diane Van- derligt with four, Cindy Vers- chuuren, Lee Anne Wakeford with three points each, and Laura Domik with two. Genni Taylor allowed onl two goals in her debut at goal- keeping. A total team effort at both ends of the rink. Keep iy the good work girls. Our next league game is Satur- day, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Port Perry. _ _
