Birthday Celebration Scott Davis of Hyde House, Scugog Pt. Rd., had a lovely par- ty on Wednesday evening, Nov. 25, with four good friends on hand to help him celebrate in style. His dad and mom, Cliff and Chris hosted the party and made it a special occasion. Just imagine... Scott is now 16 years of age... it doesn't seem possible. News of Families On Monday morning Neta Fish and yours truly joined up with son Alan Cawker of Oshawa and had a delightful luncheon at Hank's tea room with a great visit in a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. An inter- esting place to dine. On Wednesday Mabel Cawker and Chris Davis had an exciting day in Oshawa... winding up visit- ing with Alan and Eleanor Caw- ker at their lovely home. Sister Carol Carnwith was a guest as well. Refreshments and an hour of fellowship before returning home. If we can slip away for a break from the pressure of daily life, we'll come back ready once again for the fray. Everyone needs a change now and then! Night of Varietv Break-ins A number of break-ins were reported to Durham Regional Police in the past few days. More than $13,600 worth of goods were reported stolen from a Cedardale Road home in Nes- tleton on Saturday. Thieves broke into the home sometime between 1-9:30 p.m. and stole a large quantity of household items, including tools, stereo equipment, jacuzzi and other items. The thieves gained entrance to the home through a door in the garage. Stereo equipment was stolen Accident claims life A Janetville man died as a re- sult of a single-vehicle accident on Monday morning. Newcastle OPP report Ed- ward Wall, 48, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. The accident happened in Yelverton just after 7 a.m. He was pro- nounced dead on arrival at hos- pital. Details were still sketchy at the Star's deadline. Dale Davis opened with the Call to Worship and Regenia Walker and Joanna Malcolm read the portions re: Advent and lit the purple candle of Hope. The choir sang an interesting number "As Long As I Have Breath" with Karen Yellowlees leading and Carol Mairs at the piano. After the children's theme about "Hope" the minis- ter Rev. Davis presented a splendid seasonal message - a time of coming - of renewal and a new beginning - a time of hope. Scripture reader Katie Mairs from Isaiah 2: 1-6 and Matthew 24: 36-44. Judi was well liked and highly respected and will be sadly missed by her hus- band, family and many friends. The funeral was held in Stouff- ville on Monday, Nov. 23. "Mourning her passing are hus- band Jim, her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Biudacher of Stouff- ville and sister Mrs. John Little of Peterborough. A brother pre- deceased her. Joyce Taylor at the or- gan provided the traditional music of Advent. The first can- dle "Hope" was lit by Dorothy Lee, and the appropriate ser- vice read responsively. The question period was on the question - "What do you have in your hand?" Each one of us, has talents which we must use, and develop in our lives, for every- one has something.. In the sermon, Rev. Fairley spoke of the joy of family wor- ship when we were young, but which doesn't occur as a family together today. Live in love and peace.
