32 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 8, 1992 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Busy week for Bantam Bs Techstar loses to host in tournament C final Techstar Bantam Bs kicked off another busy week on Wednesday in a home contest against Peterborough. This team is always tough and they were no exception on this par- ticular evening. Port managed to draw first blood with a goal early in the opening period but it was only a matter of time before Peterbo- rough's relentless attack showed up in some serious scoreboard numbers. Eight times the goal light in our end would come on before the final buzzer wkile Techstar were only able to manage two replies. We had some. good chances around the net but all in all the visitors were a step ahead all nightlong. Scoring for Port were Matt Hobbs and Trevor Smith. On Thursday the team trav- elled to Millbrook for a duel with another tough squad. This was to be a very entertaining contest once Techstar adjusted to the cramped quarters. The forwards found it tough to free wheel on the much small- er ice surface of the Millbrook arena. Matt Phillips led a big night scoring both Techstar goals while Dylan Ferguson put on a clinicin the Port net, only allow- ing a single. Congratulations to all hands for a superb perfor- mance. Tournament play took the team on a slippery trip to Ban- croft on Saturday. In first round action, Port drew the Peterbo- rough Nationals, the same bunch that laid a beating on us on Wednesday. Techstar played well during the scoreless first but early in the second, the Nats went to work and dismantled our guys piece by piece. When we are not on our game we are no match for this gang and the result is very predictable. In the second game we drew Peterborough St. Alphonsus. This was to be a much better performance by Port and they methodically went to work from the opening face off and all those things that went wrong in the first game, suddenly went right in this one and resulted in a 4-0 romp. Snipers for Techstar were Jeff and Jon Jamieson, Kevin Gray and Matt Hobbs with as- sists going to Matt Phillips, Greg Thompson, Brad Morton and Jamie Trick who also got the shutout. This win put us in the "C" fi- nal against the host team Ban- croft. These guys were big and strong and provided some of the best forechecking seen so far this year. although Techstar had their moments, they were never really a threat and were shutout eight to zip. Dylan Fer- guson saw lots of rubber and the score was no reflection of his performance in net. The score could easily have been much ORT PERRY auto glass &* trim rd. Techstar rounded out the week's action with an exhibi- tion match against the Newcas- tle house league selects on Sun- day afternoon in Newcastle. Port dominated much of this one, coming away with a neat 4- 1 victory. Offence was provided by Sl, ey Brad Morton, Greg Thompson and Matt Hobbs. Jamie Trick missed an- other shutout by two minutes. The Malmont Farms Atom A team was eager to meet this team after losing a close one in our last meeting. Port Perry opened up the scoring in the first period when Brett Cloutier scored with assists go- ing to Ryan McQuade and Bra- den Tarbotton. This line con- nected again early in the second to put Port Perry up 2-0. Then Uxbridge came alive to pop in two goals to tie it going into the third period. The final period was a fast paced affair with both sides getting good chances. But once again Port Perry ran into penalty trouble. With two minutes left in the game and the Atoms playing two men short, Uxbridge man- aged to score the winner. Final score 3-2. Friday, Dec. 4, Lindsay came to town for our first league en- counter. We had played this team in tournament action and knew that we had to be ready for a tough game. Port Perry jumped ahead in the first ro when David Jus- tynski and Chris Skerratt set up Chris Jones to make it 1-0. Then Brett Cloutier scored to end the first, with the assist go- ing to Ryan McQuade. indsay came back to get one goal in the second period and another in the third. Good de- fensive plays by Aaron Cham- bers ll; Murphy Irvine and ex- cellent goaltending by both the Lindsay netminder and our Mike Maclennan left this game but defeat Oshawa tied at two. The Malmont Farm Atom As played Saturday evening in Oshawa against the Oshawa Bruins L.N.H.L. Ryan McQuade started the scoring with the first of nine goals for Port, assisted by Brett Cloutier and Braden Tarbotton. Greg Bruton found the mark for our second goal, assists go- ing to Brad Johnston and Chad Lance. Oshawa got on the board near the end of the first period to make it 2-1 and then came out strong in the second to tie the game at 2-2. The Malmont Farm boys came alive again with Ryan scoring his second from Brett and Braden, Greg got his sec- ond from Brad and Chad, and Braden scored assisted by Jeff Ashton. This made the score 5-2 after two periods. The scoring continued in the third with Brett bagging one early, Jeff drawing the assist. Nick Pelyk ripped one just in- side the post from the blue line with Chris Jones getting the helper. Ryan McQuade then fin- ished off his hat trick on a feed from Braden and David Justyn- ski. Our final goal came from Jeff Ashton while he was on his first shift of the year as a forward. This was a good offensive game for the boys, but goalie Mike Maclennan was pretty busy as well and kept the game close earlyon. Next game Thursday, we go to Uxbridge and Cobourg visits Friday. Swampers hot on the heels of Blackstock B & R Swampers remain hot on the heels of Blackstock for the top position in the league af- ter downing The Framer's Gal- lery 3-0 in this past Sunday's league action. Brian Pomeroy supplied all the necessary fire power as he notched all three goals for the hat trick. He re- ceived help from Dave Canning, Mike Mitchell, and Dale Lown as they drew the assists. Keith Tremblay between the pipes re- corded the shutout. The first frame ended scoreless with the first goal not coming until 1:23 into the second half off the broom of Tom Attwood from Jim Mason and Rob Kivell. Then within a span of 1:40 Mon- sma put it away with markers fram Ken Lynde, Kivell, and Attwood again. Kivell, Attwood, as well as Chester Down all picked up single assists to add to the tally sheet. Jim Rap- phourst picked up the shutout. The last game of the day was a more exciting affair as The Blackstock Brewers came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Woody's 3-2 and retain their slim hold on first place. Woody's got the only goal of the first pe- riod from the broom of Keith Young. In the second they add- ed to their lead as Larry Maarse clicked from Young and Bruce Woodrow. Blackstock then found their scoring touch with Kevin Grieve starting it from Pete Keuning. Tom Wotten net- ted the final two, the last one going in with just 58 seconds left on the clock. Bill Pratt, Ron Redman, and Gord Bryans picked up the assists.
