The unit is collecting pennies for the Hospital Auxiliary, also paper rolls and card fronts, and stamps and soup labels to be turned in to Barb Weir for Oshawa Presbyterial. The pro- gram consisted of beautiful Christmas poems. Neta had an interesting contest about Cana- da. The members repeated the Mizpah Benediction in unison. Boxes of Christmas Cheer were packed for shutins - those living alone, etc., and delivered as soon as possible. All sat around the table for the fellowship hour with a va- riety of delicious food to enjoy, topped off with tea or coffee. Barb Weir voiced the apprecia- tion to Neta and Marion for a fine meeting. Our best wishes to Yvonne - she still looks about 16. - Visitations Had a great visit with Bob and Madeline Cawker of Scugog Island one evening this past week at the farm, catching up on family news over a cup of tea. Enjoyed having son Grant drop in for a 7 a.m. breakfast on Saturday morning, and it worked out well as yours truly was just sitting down for my morning meal. Nestleton United Church On White Gift Sunday, Dec. 13, 11:16 a.m. 1992, Katie Mairs played the prelude of Christmas music. Advent III was celebrated with Rev. Dale Davis conducting the service, opening with the call to wor- ship. Janice and Leslie MacK- enzie lit the Advent Candle of Joy followed by the Advent Prayer. During the ministry of song the choir sang "One Small Child" with Carol Mairs at the piano. Very nice! The fine number of children enjoyed the minister's story and questions re - Advent, before at- tending classes. Rev. Dale Da- vis' message on "Deserts Shall Bloom" was excellent with scripture lessons read by Leslie MacKenzie from Isaiah and James. Offering. received by Robert Mairs and Richard MacKenzie and the Doxology was sung. Greeters at the door were the MacKenzie family. This fine service closed with a favorite carol "O Little Town Of Bethle- hem" and "The Lord's Prayer" sung. Benediction and Three Fold Amen. Nestleton Presbyterian Church On a bright sunny morning, the regular service of Nestleton Presbyterian Church was con- ducted by Rev. W. Fairley. Joyce Taylor was organist for the music of Christmas, and the readings for the third Sunday of Advent were read responsively. The candle of Joy was lit by Winnifred Davison. Psalm 146 was read, and scripture was from Isaiah 35 and St. Matthew 1. The ques- tion was "Why was Jesus born in a manger?" - was answered. It was God's way to send a Savi- our who would start life in an or- dinary way, grow up, and then die on the Cross for the sins of all people. In the sermon Rev. Fairley spoke of some remembrances of Christmas when there seemed to be little "joy," but God leads us through - so that we continue to praise God as He cares for us. Holy Communion will be on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. fol- lowed by a celebration of Christ- mas. Scugog Island news From Page 16 life for the better?
