Techstar Bantams win championship in Wellington The Bantam Techstars had a busy week with a game on Wednesday night and a tourna- ment in Wellington on the weekend. Through their regu- lar league play they met up with Lindsay on Wednesday night and came out on the win- ning end of a 6-2 game. Dylan Ferguson was between the pipes and was able to fend off 20 shots on him throught the night. The line of Matt Hobbs, Jon Jamieson and Todd Parry were hot tonight and captured all the goals and assists in the game. Jon got a hat trick and one assist, Matt scored two goals and two assists and Todd got three assists. Without the strong steady play of Darryl Moase, Matt Phillips and Greg Thompson, this game may have had different results. The "Stars" were on the road very early Sunday morning to meet up with their league con- tenders from Millbrook. Jamie Trick was in net for us and made some great saves but wasn't able to fend off all the fast shooters from Millbrook. The boys were defeated 5-1 with Kevin Gray scoring our only goal and the assist from Brad Morton. We then faced off against a team from Deseronto and it was a totally different outcome from our first. Port came out on the winning end of 3-0 game. Dese- ronto was no competition with their out skaters, but their goal- tender was fantastic. We had 30 shots on him throughout the game but only managed to get three past him. Dylan Ferguson was in net and had it pretty easy with only five shots on him. Our boys played excellent hockey with great defensive work being done by Trevor Smith and Devon Blair. There was no scoring in the first period but Jon Jamieson put us on the scoreboard in the second when he picked the top corner of the net. Kent Taylor assisted on that goal and then seconds later made a great shot from the blue line and with Ke- vin Gray's "tip," he was able to catch our second goal. Darryl Moase also captured an assist on this one. Port walked our- selves into the championship match when Brad Morton put the "icing on the cake" with a rebound shot from Matt Hobbs. Our final match up was again against the team from Mill- brook, but we weren't going to lose to them a second time to- day. The Techstars came out with some fast hard hitting hockey and Millbrock was able to get on the scoreboard first with a soft shot between the legs of our goaltender Dylan Ferguson, but after that it was ours all the way. Matt Hobbs got us on the scoring trail with the first goal just catching a tiny opening between the net and the goalie's shoulder. The assist came from Kevin Gray. A Turn to Page 28
